Avatr confirms Australian debut with 07L SUV

Changan’s premium Avatr brand has confirmed it will launch in Australia, with the 07L electric SUV chosen to lead the local rollout. CarExpert reported that the brand is being introduced by Changan in Australia and that the 07L will be available for pre-order before the end of 2026, with first customer deliveries targeted for the first half of 2027. Carsauce reported the same Australian timing, while Ground News’ summary of syndicated coverage said pre-orders would open later this year and deliveries would begin in early 2027. NZ Autocar also reported that the 07L is the model set to launch first in Australia and that the brand is entering the market as a separate premium line above Deepal. ¹²³⁴

What Avatr has, and has not, confirmed for Australia

Avatr has not yet detailed full Australian pricing or specifications for the 07L. CarExpert said the company had not outlined pricing or specifications beyond noting the SUV uses an 800V electrical architecture, while Carsauce said Australian powertrain, battery, charging, range and performance details will be announced ahead of launch. NZ Autocar likewise reported that local specification had not been released, and added that the Australian car will be right-hand drive. CarExpert said Australian-market 07Ls will swap Huawei sound systems for Meridian units, with further specification details to be announced closer to launch, and that the local version of Avatr OS will be adapted for Australian customers, digital services and market requirements. ¹²⁴

Chinese-market 07L specifications provide the clearest current picture

The most detailed technical information currently comes from the Chinese-market 07L described by CarExpert and NZ Autocar. CarExpert said the five-seat SUV measures 4910mm long, 1980mm wide and 1650mm tall on a 2990mm wheelbase, and is offered in China with an 89.33kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery. In the rear-wheel-drive form, CarExpert reported a single 305kW/435Nm motor, 725km of CLTC range and a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds. For the all-wheel-drive version, CarExpert said the 07L uses one 210kW/246Nm front motor and two 251kW/375Nm rear motors for total outputs of 712kW and 996Nm, with 650km of CLTC range and a 3.7-second 0-100km/h claim. NZ Autocar said both versions use the same 89.33kWh battery, and added that the battery is CATL’s Shenxing lithium iron phosphate design rated for 5C charging. ¹⁴

Equipment, chassis and market positioning

CarExpert said the 07L has double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, Continuous Damping Control as standard and optional Magic Carpet air suspension, along with 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it reported a pillar-to-pillar 35.4-inch digital display, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, a 16-speaker 960W Huawei audio system, and heated, ventilated, massaging and power-adjustable front seats. It also listed digital rear-view mirrors, a smart in-vehicle cooler/warmer, and a 25-speaker Huawei Superior sound system with a 2080W amplifier among available features, plus a standard suite of active safety and driver-assistance technology. NZ Autocar added that the Chinese-market 07L includes air suspension, powered doors and nine airbags, and said the Ultra variant adds 21-inch wheels and four-piston Brembo front brakes. ¹⁴

CarExpert said Avatr was established in 2018, started producing its first vehicles in 2022 and entered its first right-hand-drive market, Thailand, late in 2024. It also reported that the brand is backed by Changan, CATL and Huawei, with Changan holding a 40.99 per cent stake and CATL a 14.1 per cent stake, while Huawei is described as a strategic partner supplying advanced driver-assistance systems and in-car technology. Separately, CarExpert reported that Avatr’s newest flagship SUV previewed on 9 September 2026, the T09, is a different plug-in hybrid model and not the 07L; it was described as a six-seat vehicle over five metres long with MIIT-listed hybrid powertrains and a CATL battery, but no battery capacity was published in the filing. ¹⁶

Distribution, dealers and launch context

NZ Autocar reported that Avatr’s Australian rollout was still being arranged, saying Changan Group Australia was in discussions with multiple parties over who would sell the brand locally and had not decided whether to appoint a distributor or run the market itself. It also quoted Andrew Haurissa as saying dealers would be appointed before the end of 2026 and would be existing multi-franchise operators rather than standalone Avatr sites. Ground News’ summary of wider coverage said Avatr is one of several Chinese premium brands moving into Australia, alongside Zeekr and Denza, while its syndicated article listing described the 07L as a rival to Tesla and established premium brands.
