BYD Atto 2 DM-i priced as Australia’s cheapest PHEV

BYD locks in Atto 2 DM-i pricing

BYD Australia has set the 2027 Atto 2 DM-i Essential at $24,990 before on-road costs and the Premium at $29,990 before on-road costs. CarExpert says that pricing makes the Essential Australia’s cheapest PHEV, overtaking the larger BYD Sealion 5 Essential, which had been priced from $33,990 before on-road costs since its local launch in December 2025. ⁴

CarExpert also placed the Atto 2 DM-i beneath BYD’s existing electric Atto 2 range, reporting the Atto 2 EV at $31,990 before on-road costs for the Dynamic and $35,990 before on-road costs for the Premium. Those amounts are separate from the new plug-in hybrid pricing and retain their own list-price basis. ⁴

Launch offer and conditions

BYD’s offers page lists a launch offer for the ATTO 2 DM-i Essential at $25,990 drive-away. The primary terms restrict that pricing to the ATTO 2 DM-i Essential variant, apply it only to retail customers, and require order placement between 1 September 2026 and 30 September 2026 with delivery by 31 December 2026. ²

The same terms say promotional drive-away pricing is not available to demonstrator vehicles or any transactions involving additional promotional offers or discounts. They also note that vehicle allocation is subject to availability, eligibility is not guaranteed until delivery, and BYD Automotive cannot guarantee delivery within the promotional period. ²

BYD says that if an order taken within the campaign window cannot be delivered by 31 December 2026, it will review the case individually and may approve an extension to the delivery period. Metallic paint is available at extra cost. ²

Powertrain, range and charging

CarExpert reports that both Atto 2 DM-i grades use a 72kW/122Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with a 145kW/300Nm electric motor and front-wheel drive only. It says combined output is 122kW for the Essential and 156kW for the Premium, with 300Nm of torque in both cases. ⁴

According to CarExpert, the Essential uses a 7.85kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate battery and claims 39km of electric-only WLTP range, while the Premium gets an 18.03kWh Blade battery and claims 90km of electric-only WLTP range. CarExpert says both variants have 3.3kW AC charging and no DC fast-charging capability. ⁴

CarExpert also lists the Atto 2 DM-i’s dimensions as 4330mm long, 1830mm wide, 1675mm tall and riding on a 2620mm wheelbase. The model is therefore the same compact SUV size as the electric Atto 2, but with the DM-i hybrid powertrain. ⁴

Equipment and BYD’s model positioning

CarExpert says the Essential comes with cloth upholstery, manual seat adjustment, a polyurethane steering wheel, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a four-speaker audio system and 16-inch alloy wheels. It says the Premium adds synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a synthetic leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 12.8-inch touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, 17-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof, roof rails, a wireless phone charger, front parking sensors and a unique Turquoise Blue colour. ⁴

CarExpert reports that both DM-i grades keep wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring and LED headlights and taillights. It also says V2L is exclusive to the Premium. ⁴

BYD’s own Atto 2 DM-i register-interest page describes the model as a compact SUV using DM Super Hybrid technology, with Vehicle-To-Load, BYD App connectivity, an intelligent cockpit and the Blade Battery. BYD’s DM Super Hybrid explainer says the system is electric-first, with the petrol engine supporting the vehicle through series and parallel operation when needed. ¹³
