Porsche brings wireless charging to the Cayenne Electric

Porsche first announced wireless charging for electric cars in September 2025 and said the new Cayenne Electric would be the first model line to offer the option. In that announcement, Porsche described an 11 kW inductive charging system built around a one-box floor plate, with no separate wallbox or control unit required at the parking space. Porsche said the technology had reached market readiness for battery-electric vehicles and framed the Cayenne Electric as the first Porsche model series to be offered with the necessary vehicle-side equipment. ⁵³

What the hardware includes and how it works

Porsche says the wireless charging setup consists of vehicle preparation, a vehicle plate and a ground plate installed in the parking space. The floor plate can be mounted in a garage, carport or outdoor parking bay and connected to mains power, while the vehicle receiver sits in the underbody between the front wheels and is protected from stone chips and weather. Porsche says the car must be parked over the plate and the parking brake engaged before charging begins automatically, with positioning assistance shown in the Surround View parking function and initial pairing handled through the PCM system. ⁵³⁶

The company says the charging zone is monitored by motion sensing, foreign object detection and living-object protection. In Porsche’s own wording, charging is interrupted if a person or animal enters the area between the vehicle and the pad, or if a metallic object on the plate heats up. The ask.porsche.com guidance adds that the floor plate can be freely placed or permanently mounted and must be installed by a qualified electrician. ⁵⁶

Porsche’s charging press kit states that wireless charging cannot be retrofitted to a vehicle that lacks the required preparation package. ³

Charging performance and related Cayenne Electric figures

Porsche says the wireless system transfers energy at up to 11 kW AC with efficiency of up to 90 per cent. The floor plate is said to weigh about 50 kilograms and include WLAN as standard, with LTE in some markets, so remote software updates and infrastructure support remain available. Porsche also says the system is integrated into the My Porsche app, where charging sessions can be tracked and multiple vehicles authenticated. In its September 2026 Cayenne Electric model-year update, Porsche said wireless charging was being added to the configurator for the all-electric Cayenne and Cayenne Coupé, alongside electrically operated doors and expanded interior customisation. ⁵³²

Porsche’s Cayenne Electric charging press kit also sets out the model’s conventional charging figures. It says AC charging is possible at up to 11 kW with the standard onboard charger, while a 22 kW onboard charger is available as an option. On DC, Porsche says the Cayenne Electric can charge at up to 390 kW, and under specific conditions up to 400 kW. Porsche says the battery can go from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 16 minutes, and that up to 10 minutes of charging can add enough range for 312 to 338 kilometres depending on variant. ³

Availability and rollout timing

Porsche said in September 2025 that Wireless Charging would start in 2026, initially in Europe, with other markets to follow. In September 2026, Porsche said all components of Porsche Wireless Charging were now available to order in Germany and other European markets, and that the system was being rolled out worldwide in stages. Porsche’s Australian newsroom page carried the same Europe-first availability wording. In a separate U.S. announcement, Porsche said the Cayenne Electric was expected to offer the wireless charging option to U.S. customers in late 2026. ⁵²⁴¹

The rollout plan covers countries with Porsche Connect and excludes China. The Australian newsroom announcement does not specify an Australian on-sale date or local price for the system. ²⁴
