Smart confirms the #5 for Australia

Smart has officially launched the all-new #5 in Australia, positioning it as the brand’s flagship mid-size SUV. The manufacturer’s local media page says the Pro+ variant starts at AU$58,900, the Premium+ at AU$63,900 and the BRABUS edition at AU$73,900, each before on-road costs. CarExpert reports the same pricing and says retail deliveries are expected to begin in November 2026. ¹²

The launch follows a delay from Smart’s earlier timing guidance. GoAuto says Smart originally pointed to an Australian arrival in late 2025 or early 2026 before shifting the timetable into the second half of 2026 to prioritise production for other markets. NRMA likewise reports that Smart has not yet given a firm local showroom date, saying only that full launch details would follow. ³⁴

Battery, charging and range

Smart’s Australian media material says the #5 arrives as a premium mid-size electric SUV and CarExpert says the local launch is being framed around an 800V electrical architecture. CarExpert reports the range uses a 100kWh battery pack, with 10 to 80 per cent DC charging possible in as little as 18 minutes and vehicle-to-load capability included. The Smart media page confirms the pricing and launch, while the detailed charging and battery claims are set out in CarExpert’s specification coverage. ¹²

CarExpert reports the Australian line-up as Pro+, Premium+ and BRABUS, with the rear-drive versions using a single electric motor and the Brabus adding dual motors and all-wheel drive. It lists claimed outputs of 267kW and 373Nm for the rear-drive models and 475kW and 710Nm for the Brabus, with claimed WLTP range of 590km for the rear-drive versions and 540km for the Brabus. The same report says the Brabus can do 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds. ²

Dimensions, equipment and safety

The published dimensions are not completely consistent across the reporting. CarExpert lists the #5 at 4695mm long, 1920mm wide and 1705mm high on a 2900mm wheelbase, while GoAuto and NRMA each state 4705mm in length with the same width, height and wheelbase. What is clear across the reporting is that Smart is moving from its small-car roots to a substantially larger five-seat SUV positioned in the mid-size segment. ²³⁴

CarExpert says standard equipment on the Pro+ includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic halo roof with power sunshade, power tailgate, keyless entry and start, an NFC key card, automatic LED headlights, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ radio, over-the-air updates, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control and a nine-speaker sound system. It says the Premium+ adds 20-inch wheels, a hands-free power tailgate, rear privacy glass, an augmented-reality head-up display, a 13-inch OLED passenger screen, a 20-speaker Sennheiser system, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, while the Brabus adds 21-inch wheels, red brake calipers, simulated engine sound and Brabus drive modes. ²

On safety, CarExpert says the #5 is not yet rated by ANCAP, but Euro NCAP gave it five stars in 2025 and named it Best in Class large SUV for 2025. The same report lists adaptive cruise control with stop/go, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitoring, lane-keep assist, emergency lane-keep assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit warning, traffic sign recognition, tyre pressure monitoring, parking emergency braking and seven airbags as standard. ²

Warranty, retail footprint and the wider Smart range

CarExpert says Smart backs the #5 with a five-year/150,000km vehicle warranty and an eight-year/150,000km battery warranty with a 70 per cent state-of-health threshold. It also says servicing is required every 12 months or 20,000km, and that Smart vehicles are sold through three showrooms in South Melbourne, Alexandria and Newstead, operated by LSH Auto Australia. ²

The #5 joins the smaller #1 and #3, which relaunched Smart in Australia in 2024. GoAuto reports the #1 Pro+ now starts at $49,900 before on-road costs, the Premium at $53,900 and the Brabus at $63,900, while the #3 Pro+ is $52,900, the Premium $56,900 and the Brabus $65,900. NRMA says the reduced #1 price pushes Smart’s starting point below $50,000 before on-road costs for the first time. Those are list prices before on-road costs, separate from any drive-away pricing. ²³⁴
