Tesla puts pre-assembled Megachargers into service

Tesla Charging said on 15 September 2026 that the first pre-assembled Megachargers are now in the field to support the Semi production ramp. The announcement marks the first public deployment of the company’s factory-assembled Megacharger units, which are built around its V4 charging hardware for the Class 8 Semi truck. ¹²

What the new Megacharger package includes

The deployed unit pairs one V4 power cabinet with two charging posts. Tesla Charging said each post is rated at up to 1.2 megawatts, while Drive Tesla Canada described the equipment as arriving largely assembled so crews can install a complete charger group without building the hardware piece by piece on site. TeslaNorth likewise said the new packs are factory-assembled V4 cabinet units with dual posts. ¹²

Layout options and installation timing

Drive Tesla Canada reported that Tesla has developed long and short versions of the pre-assembled unit to accommodate different site layouts. According to that report, the variants are designed to minimise conductor length and reduce the amount of trenching needed between the chargers and a site’s switchgear or transformer, which could shorten installation work for new Megacharger locations. ²

Drive Tesla Canada also quoted Tesla charging lead Max de Zegher as saying, “Only at Tesla does a sketch become units craned onto site in under 3 months.” That comment was presented as a description of the modular hardware’s rapid progression from concept to installed equipment. ²

Where the first units were placed remains undisclosed

Tesla Charging did not identify the location of the first deployed units in its post. Drive Tesla Canada said the photos did not appear to show Florida, where a pre-assembled Megacharger installation had previously been discussed, and suggested the first units were likely in California or Texas, but did not verify either location. TeslaNorth did not name a site either, but said the deployment sits alongside broader Semi charging work already underway. ¹²

Context for the Semi charging build-out

TeslaNorth reported that Tesla had opened Semi Charging for Business across five European countries that week, with fleets able to buy depot Megachargers and Basechargers directly for their own yards. Drive Tesla Canada also said Tesla is planning a major Megacharger rollout in Europe and has stated that the Semi can recover up to 60% of its battery in 30 minutes, underscoring the role of very high-power charging in the truck program. ¹²
