Xpeng calibrates Australian driver-assistance system ahead of 2027 NGP rollout

Local calibration now under way

Xpeng has confirmed it is undertaking local testing and calibration of its driver-assistance technology and vehicle dynamics in Australia and New Zealand. Damian Royce, Xpeng Australia and New Zealand’s head of marketing and creativity, said the company’s XPilot system is being tested against local road conditions so it can be adapted for the markets where the vehicles will actually operate. He said the work is intended to calibrate the system for local conditions rather than simply deploy software developed for another market. ¹

The company says the testing program has been running since early this year and covers road testing, vehicle dynamics testing, and data and software testing. Xpeng also says the work will continue after launch, including with Google on mapping and navigation software. CarExpert reported that the confirmation came after prototypes were spotted testing in Australia earlier this year. ¹

XPilot and NGP hardware

XPilot is fitted as standard across the Xpeng range sold in Australia, with functions including adaptive cruise control, lane centring, lane-change assistance, traffic sign recognition and intelligent parking assistance. Xpeng says local calibration is focusing on three main areas: avoiding vulnerable road users, understanding road signs and understanding what Royce described as implicit traffic rules. ¹

Xpeng says parking assist is also being adapted for conditions such as shopping-centre carparks, tight kerbside spaces and home garages. The company says the system includes a 360-degree camera and parking sensors, but it has not yet detailed exactly how those parking functions will work in Australia and New Zealand. ¹

The next-generation Navigation Guided Pilot system, or NGP, is planned for Australia and New Zealand from 2027, subject to the required local rollout and approvals. Xpeng says both markets are among the first right-hand-drive markets scheduled to receive the technology. ¹

What the L03 gets

On the Australian-market L03, only the top-spec AWD Performance Ultra has the Turing AI hardware required for NGP. Xpeng says that variant uses three in-house developed Turing AI chips, providing up to 2250 TOPS of computing power. The Standard Range, Long Range and Power-X Long Range variants use a conventional driver-assistance package and do not currently have a stated hardware upgrade path to NGP. ¹

Xpeng has confirmed four Australian L03 grades: RWD Standard Range, RWD Long Range, Power-X Long Range EREV and AWD Performance Ultra. CarExpert said pricing starts at $41,900 before on-road costs for the RWD Standard Range, rises to $46,900 for the RWD Long Range, and reaches $53,900 for the AWD Performance Ultra. Zecar reported the Power-X Long Range EREV is also priced at $41,900 before on-road costs, making it the same list price as the entry-level RWD Standard Range despite using a different powertrain. ²⁴

Zecar said the L03 line-up comprises three battery-electric variants and one range-extended electric variant, and that pricing is before on-road costs. It reported battery capacities of 58.3kWh LFP for the RWD Standard Range, 71.2kWh LFP for the RWD Long Range and AWD Performance Ultra, and 37.2kWh LFP for the Power-X Long Range. ⁴

Range, charging and equipment

Zecar reported WLTP range figures of 445km for the RWD Standard Range, 520km for the RWD Long Range, 440km for the AWD Performance Ultra, and 215km electric plus 1,017km combined for the Power-X Long Range. It also reported peak DC charging of up to 193kW for the RWD Standard Range, 236kW for the RWD Long Range and AWD Performance Ultra, and 123kW for the Power-X Long Range, with 10-80 per cent DC charging quoted at about 20 minutes across the range. ⁴

According to Zecar, the AWD Performance Ultra is the only L03 variant with 20-inch wheels, an 18-speaker XOpera sound system, road noise cancellation, a heated windscreen and front-seat massage. The publication also said the L03 debuts Xpeng’s XOS 6 cockpit software and native Google Maps Auto SDK integration, with XPILOT Assist as the baseline ADAS suite for the other variants. ⁴

Timing and market context

Xpeng’s Australian strategy announcement on 21 July said the L03 was confirmed for Australian sale in Q4 2026. CarExpert later reported that the first examples are expected to arrive in local dealerships in November. Those dates should be read as separate timing statements from different reports, rather than as a single confirmed delivery date. ³²

Xpeng’s July strategy page also said the company would introduce its advanced Navigation Guided Pilot technology in 2027 and build out a sales and service network alongside five new vehicles. CarExpert’s separate report on Tesla’s updated Full Self-Driving system arriving in Australia provides broader context for the local driver-assistance landscape, but it concerns a different manufacturer and should not be read as evidence about Xpeng’s own rollout timing. ³⁵
