China launch teaser adds a domestic step

BYD has started teasing a China launch for the Shark pickup under its Fang Cheng Bao brand, releasing official images on 24 September. CnEVPost said the campaign marks the model’s first consumer-facing promotion for a domestic launch, while CarNewsChina reported the same teaser as a sign the Shark is poised to enter the Chinese market soon. Both sources said the teaser itself did not disclose a launch date or domestic pricing. ¹³

What the filing says about the China-market Shark

The China-market version described in the MIIT filing is a plug-in hybrid pickup with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and dual electric motors. CnEVPost reported peak outputs of 170kW for the front motor and 150kW for the rear motor, while CarNewsChina added that the engine is the BYD476ZQF unit with a 1,497ml displacement, 135kW net power and 143kW total power under China VI standards. Both outlets gave the same body dimensions of 5,457mm long, 1,971mm wide, 1,925mm high, and a 3,260mm wheelbase, and CnEVPost said the battery is an LFP unit made by FinDreams Battery. ¹³

CarNewsChina also listed cargo-bed dimensions of 1,520mm by 1,530mm by 515mm, a curb weight of 2,710kg, a gross vehicle weight of 3,495kg, a 460kg rated payload and a 180km/h top speed for the filing version. ³

Global rollout and sales context

CnEVPost said BYD launched the Shark in Mexico in May 2024, making it a rare BYD model to debut overseas before China, and that it has since entered markets including Brazil, Australia, Cambodia and Pakistan. CarNewsChina described the overseas presence more broadly, saying the Shark 6 has also reached Chile, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the UAE. ¹³

CnEVPost said the Shark recorded 4,300 overseas sales in August, taking its total for the first eight months of 2026 to 29,997. The same report said Li Yunfei signalled a domestic launch in October 2025 and Xiong Tianbo later said in May that the Shark would join Fang Cheng Bao’s lineup in 2026, without a detailed schedule. ¹

Australian specification and pricing context

BYD Australia’s Shark 6 page shows the local range now includes a Dynamic Cab Chassis, a Premium Pickup and a Performance Pickup. The page says the Dynamic and Premium use a 1.5-litre turbo high-power hybrid engine with 321kW and 650Nm, while the Performance uses a 2.0-litre turbo high-power hybrid engine with 350kW and 700Nm. BYD Australia lists 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds for the 1.5-litre models and 5.5 seconds for the Performance, plus braked towing capacities of 2,500kg and 3,500kg respectively. ²⁴

The Australian site also says the Shark 6 uses a DMO plug-in hybrid architecture, all-wheel drive, double wishbone front and rear suspension and mud, sand and snow terrain modes. BYD Australia lists a combined range of 800km for the 1.5-litre models and 640km WLTP for the Performance, with fuel use quoted at 2L/100km for the 1.5-litre versions and 1.3L/100km WLTP for the Performance. Its warranty note says the traction battery is covered for eight years or 160,000km and the vehicle for six years or 150,000km, subject to terms and conditions. ²⁴

4x4 Australia lists the BYD Shark at $57,900 and identifies that figure as excluding on-road costs. The same page says the Shark uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with dual electric motors, produces 321kW and 650Nm, uses a 29.6kWh Blade Battery, and is fitted with all-wheel drive, double wishbone suspension and a 2,500kg towing limit. ⁵
