Deliveries began in July; later totals remain uncertain

Australian deliveries of the Mazda 6e began in July 2026, Wood Central reported on 15 July. Mazda Australia had opened pre-orders for the electric five-door liftback in February and said at the time that first deliveries were expected to commence in July. Wood Central’s later account reported the start of deliveries, rather than another forecast. ⁴⁶

A DriveAgent report published on 26 September recounted a Headtopics claim of 693 Australian deliveries over four months and 2000 pre-orders at launch. Those figures are not independently corroborated. A NewsBreak preview of a CleanTechnica article refers to a launch eight months earlier but does not display either total. The claimed launch timing also sits uneasily with Mazda’s February pre-order opening and the reported July start of deliveries; it does not establish a reliable four-month sales period. ¹²

In its June review, Chasing Cars reported that Mazda Australia had taken more than 700 pre-orders, with most for the Atenza. That is a dated order figure, not a count of cars delivered. Mazda’s February announcement also offered the first 300 GT pre-order customers a free upgrade to an Atenza, a condition worth retaining when considering reports about the early mix of grades. ³⁴

Australian powertrain, range and charging

Mazda specifies one rear-wheel-drive powertrain for both Australian grades: an electric motor producing up to 190kW and 290Nm, paired with a 78kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery. The company states combined energy consumption of 15.9kWh/100km and a driving range of up to 560km on the WLTP test cycle. That range is a test-cycle rating, not a measured distance in Australian driving. ⁴⁷

Mazda says the 6e has a CCS Type 2 port and can DC-charge from 30 to 80 per cent in as little as 15 minutes. Chasing Cars lists a 194kW maximum DC charging rate and a 10-to-80 per cent time of 24 minutes; the quoted times cover different charging windows. In a drive involving extremely hilly country and freeways, Chasing Cars reported achieving 459km, under conditions distinct from the WLTP cycle. ⁴³

Equipment and driving assessments

Mazda lists 19-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera system, tri-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system for the GT. Chasing Cars identifies a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and 10.2-inch driver display. Mazda says the Atenza adds tan leather and synthetic-suede upholstery, a two-tone steering wheel, and matching dashboard and door trim. ⁴³

The five-seat liftback has a 2895mm wheelbase, according to Mazda. Chasing Cars found generous rear legroom but limited space for rear passengers’ toes, and reported a 337-litre luggage compartment. Its review praised the Australian-specification car’s quiet, composed ride and balanced handling while criticising light steering, complicated touchscreen menus, screen-operated wipers and persistent safety alerts. ⁴³

CarExpert’s summary of its separate Australian GT quick drive likewise praised the ride over rough roads but listed screen-heavy controls, compromised driving ergonomics and overbearing safety technology among its drawbacks. Those observations are the publications’ assessments, rather than claims about equipment or performance made by Mazda. ⁷

List prices and the limited pre-order offer

Mazda’s February manufacturer list prices were $49,990 for the GT and $52,990 for the Atenza, both before on-road costs. Mazda described its complimentary Atenza upgrade for the first 300 GT pre-order customers as a $3000 saving; the limited offer should not be treated as a standing discount. Mazda also listed Warm Beige interior trim as a $1000 option exclusive to the GT. ⁴

CarExpert’s Mazda 6e listing displays separate estimated drive-away prices of $54,607 for the GT and $57,757 for the Atenza, based on a Sydney location. CarExpert says its estimates include certain delivery, registration and road charges but exclude some costs, including compulsory third-party insurance, dealer delivery fees and optional extras. They are not the same pricing basis as Mazda’s February list prices and may vary by location. ⁷⁴

Manufacture, warranty and model context

Chasing Cars describes the 6e as a product of Mazda’s Chinese joint venture with Changan; CarExpert lists China as its country of manufacture. The electric liftback carries forward the Mazda 6 name but is not a continuation of the former sedan and wagon range, which CarExpert’s Mazda 6 news listing says was retired in Australia. ³⁷⁵

Wood Central reported a five-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year, 160,000km battery warranty for Australian 6e models. It also reported that the car won the 2026 World Car Design of the Year award. Neither that recognition nor the documented start of deliveries establishes a subsequent Australian delivery total. ⁶⁷
