Victorian LandCruiser offered at auction with 999,999km displayed

A working LandCruiser goes to auction

Nhill stock agent Gary Driscoll offered his 2009 Toyota LandCruiser for online auction in August 2026 with 999,999km showing on its digital odometer. Driscoll told ABC News he had parked it roughly 300 metres short of one million kilometres so its purchaser could cover the remaining distance. German publication auto motor und sport identified the vehicle as a 200 Series Sahara. ¹²

According to the ABC, Driscoll averaged more than 180km a day driving to properties across western Victoria. Carscoops reported that he bought the LandCruiser new in April 2010 and withdrew it from daily work in November 2025. The ABC said the vehicle was parked in Nhill when the auction was announced. ¹³

Servicing and mechanical details

Horsham Toyota told the ABC that the LandCruiser had been serviced almost 100 times, was the most travelled vehicle the dealership had seen and still had its original engine. Auto motor und sport reported that Driscoll documented its upkeep with 100 dealer stamps in the service book. Carscoops reported that the original gearbox remained fitted, too. The number of service stamps need not be identical to the dealership’s count of services. ¹²³

Auto motor und sport and Carscoops described this Sahara’s powertrain as a 4.5-litre twin-turbo diesel V8, six-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive. Both reported outputs of 265PS and 650Nm; Carscoops also gave the power figure as 195kW. Those figures describe the auction vehicle, not a current LandCruiser model. ²³

Driscoll described the vehicle as being in good condition, the ABC reported. Auto motor und sport said he identified a starter-motor replacement at 973,000km as its only notable fault. Carscoops reported that it was fitted with a bull bar and auxiliary LED lights. The condition and fault account is the owner’s description, rather than an independent mechanical inspection. ¹²³

Auction dates and price expectations

The ABC reported on 3 August that online bidding was to open that Monday morning and run for two weeks. Carscoops identified the platform as Auctions Plus. In its 10 August report, auto motor und sport said the auction was scheduled to run until 17 August. Those dates refer to the August 2026 auction period, not a current offer. ¹²³

The ABC reported that Driscoll did not put a fixed value on the LandCruiser, although he thought it should make more than $30,000. Auto motor und sport subsequently reported on 10 August that he expected bids of $20,000 to $30,000. The figures are differently dated expectations; neither establishes what the vehicle sold for. ¹²

In a further price comparison quoted by the ABC, Driscoll put an otherwise comparable LandCruiser with less than half this vehicle’s kilometres at around $30,000 to $35,000, while suggesting his own might attract $20,000 to $30,000 if a bidder valued its unusual mileage. That comparison was an estimate, not an auction result. ¹

The million-kilometre question

Driscoll told the ABC he did not know whether the odometer would reset to zero or remain at 999,999km after the vehicle covered the remaining distance. Toyota could not confirm which of its vehicles had travelled furthest in Australia, the ABC reported, but said it knew of several customers whose Toyotas had passed one million kilometres. ¹

Automotive journalist Toby Hagon told the ABC that a vehicle with around one million kilometres appearing at auction was extremely rare. He said four-wheel drives and utes were more likely to accumulate such distances because long country-road journeys could be gentler on an engine than lower-speed urban driving. ¹
