Xpeng calibrates Australian driver-assistance rollout as L03 pricing lands

Xpeng’s local calibration work and 2027 software timing

Xpeng has confirmed it is undertaking local testing and calibration of its driver-assistance technology and vehicle dynamics in Australia and New Zealand, with the stated aim of adapting XPilot to the roads in both markets. PerthNow reported that the company’s local program follows prototype testing spotted earlier this year, while Xpeng’s July strategy statement said Australia would be among the first right-hand-drive markets to receive its next-generation Navigation Guided Pilot system from 2027, subject to the required local rollout and approvals. ¹²

In PerthNow’s report, Xpeng Australia and New Zealand head of marketing Damian Royce said local road testing was underway and that the company was calibrating systems for Australian and New Zealand road conditions rather than simply deploying technology developed for another market. PerthNow also said the local work focuses on vulnerable road users, road-sign recognition and implicit traffic rules, with parking assistance being adapted for conditions such as shopping-centre car parks, kerbside spaces and home garages. ¹

Pricing, orders and delivery timing

Xpeng’s July Australia strategy said the L03 was confirmed for Australian sale in Q4 2026, and later launch coverage said pre-orders open from 24 September. GoAuto reported that customer delivery timing had not yet been formally announced at the time of its pricing story, while PerthNow said the first examples were expected in dealerships in November and Zecar said Xpeng’s Australian launch materials did not specify an on-sale date or delivery timing. Those are different dated statements, not one settled delivery timetable. ²³⁵⁷

The L03 arrives in four grades in Australia. GoAuto reported list pricing of $41,900 plus on-road costs for the RWD Standard Range and the PowerX Long Range, $46,900 plus on-road costs for the RWD Long Range, and $53,900 plus on-road costs for the AWD Performance Ultra. Zecar and PerthNow reported the same structure and pricing ladder. These are manufacturer list prices excluding on-road costs, not drive-away figures. ³⁵⁷

Variants, powertrains and equipment

GoAuto and Zecar described the L03 as a mid-size coupe-style SUV measuring 4,650mm long, 1,920mm wide and 1,600mm high on a 2,850mm wheelbase. For the RWD Standard Range, GoAuto and PerthNow reported a 58.3kWh LFP battery, 180kW rear motor and up to 445km WLTP range. For the RWD Long Range, they reported a 71.2kWh battery and 520km WLTP range, while the AWD Performance Ultra adds a second motor and around 285kW combined output with a 4.5-second 0-100km/h claim. ³⁵⁷

For the PowerX Long Range, GoAuto reported a 37.2kWh battery paired with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that acts only as a generator, leaving the electric motor to drive the wheels at all times. GoAuto said the setup delivers around 215km of electric-only range and up to 1,017km combined range, while Zecar listed peak DC charging at 123kW and an approximate 20-minute 10-80 per cent charge time. PerthNow likewise said the local testing program extends beyond driver assistance to data, software and vehicle dynamics. ³⁵⁷

GoAuto reported the L03’s cabin equipment includes a 15.6-inch touchscreen, native Google Maps integration, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, wireless charging and 256-colour ambient lighting. It also said XPilot includes adaptive cruise control, lane centring, lane-change assistance, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, intelligent parking functions, driver monitoring, cross-traffic alerts, door-opening warning, a 360-degree camera and parking sensors. ³⁵⁷

NGP hardware allocation and the source conflict

The sources do not agree on how much NGP hardware sits in the Australian L03 range. PerthNow reported that only the top-spec Australian-market L03 AWD Performance Ultra is fitted with the Turing AI hardware required for NGP, and Zecar said only the AWD Performance Ultra gets the NGP hardware and triple Turing AI chips, with OTA activation planned for 2027 subject to regulatory approval. Autotrader NZ said the same about the New Zealand allocation and added that earlier reports had applied Chinese-market hardware assumptions to export versions. ¹⁴⁷

Techtimes reached a different conclusion, saying all Australian L03 variants receive triple Turing chips delivering 2,250 TOPS and that this was confirmed by Xpeng’s final specification. Because that statement conflicts with PerthNow, Autotrader NZ and Zecar, the hardware allocation remains source-dependent rather than settled by a single consistent account. ⁶

Offer conditions and market context

Zecar said the three battery-electric L03 variants are eligible for Australia’s EV Fringe Benefits Tax exemption, while the PowerX Long Range is not because it uses a petrol range extender and does not meet the requirement that an exempt car be fully electric. That distinction is material because the PowerX shares the same $41,900 entry price as the Standard Range BEV while delivering much greater claimed range, but it does so without the same tax treatment for eligible salary-packaged buyers. ⁵⁷

The L03 sits inside Xpeng’s broader Australian expansion, which the company framed in July as five new vehicles within six months, a larger sales and service network, and the introduction of NGP in 2027. Within that program, the L03 is positioned as the mid-size model line’s local technology showcase, combining the entry-priced BEV, the range-extender variant and the more powerful AWD flagship in one range. ²³⁵
