2027 Hyundai Staria Load Electric launches in Australia from $70,990 plus on-road costs

Hyundai Australia has added a battery-electric version of its Staria Load commercial van to the local range, priced from $70,990 plus on-road costs and available now in two-seat Liftback and Twin Swing rear-door configurations. Both body styles carry the same manufacturer list price, and the new variant completes the MY27 van line-up alongside the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and the petrol-electric hybrid. Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief operating officer Gavin Donaldson said the model brings the company's advanced electric vehicle technology to its commercial range while retaining the capability businesses expect, describing it as a highly capable all-electric workhorse. ¹²

The Electric is offered only in base trim. GoAuto reports it costs $21,000 more than the turbo-diesel at $49,990 plus on-road costs, $17,500 more than the base Staria Load Hybrid at $53,490 plus on-road costs, and $9750 more than the better-equipped Hybrid Premium at $61,240 plus on-road costs, all figures excluding on-road costs. 7NEWS, publishing CarExpert's report, notes the Premium trim remains exclusive to the hybrid and comes only with a lift-up tailgate. ¹⁴

According to CarSauce, the model will make its Australian public debut at Everything Electric Sydney, held from 18 to 20 September 2026 at Sydney Olympic Park, following its on-sale announcement on 17 September 2026. ²

Pricing for the Staria Load Electric was not yet announced when CarExpert reported the wider MY27 Staria and Staria Load updates in April 2026, at which stage only the 84kWh battery and 160kW front motor were confirmed and the EV was listed with a payload estimate of 800kg. The confirmed launch figures of $70,990 plus on-road costs and a 1005kg payload supersede those preliminary details. ³¹

Powertrain and charging

The Staria Load Electric uses a front-mounted electric motor producing 160kW and 350Nm, drawing energy from an 84kWh lithium-ion battery, with Hyundai claiming WLTP driving range of up to 450km and listing energy consumption at 20.7kWh/100km. It rides on Hyundai's 800-volt E-GMP architecture, enabling DC charging at up to 350kW, and the company claims a 10-to-80 per cent recharge in 20 minutes when connected to a suitably powerful charger. The charging port is positioned centrally in the nose of the vehicle for easier access when pulling into charging bays. ¹²

A battery heating system assists battery performance and charging efficiency in cold conditions, while a heat pump reduces the energy drawn from the traction battery when heating the cabin, according to GoAuto's report. ¹

Payload, towing and cargo capacity

Carrying ability is largely preserved despite the battery. The Electric's 1005kg payload sits between the diesel's 997kg and the hybrid's 1039kg, while braked towing capacity is rated at 2000kg — 500kg below the diesel's 2500kg rating but well ahead of the hybrid, which is not rated to tow at all. CarSauce also lists a 750kg unbraked towing figure. ¹²

Cargo capacity is unchanged across all three powertrains at 4935 litres, with the load space measuring 2607mm long, 1640mm wide and 1436mm high. The Electric is available only as a two-seat van, consistent with the broader MY27 update in which the five-seat crew van configuration was dropped. ¹⁴

A three-pin interior Vehicle-to-Load outlet is positioned on the right-hand side of the cargo area, drawing power directly from the high-voltage traction battery so operators can run tools or appliances on site without a separate generator, GoAuto reports. ¹

Equipment and design changes

The Electric is identified by a smooth closed front panel replacing the grille, incorporating the charging port, along with front and rear underbody panels for aerodynamic efficiency, Electric badging and standard 17-inch steel wheels. Only two exterior colours are offered — Creamy White and Shimmering Silver, the latter costing an extra $750 according to 7NEWS. Inside, the updated two-seat cabin with open centre console carries over, with a column-mounted Shift-by-Wire selector, Obsidian Black cloth upholstery and a 23.9-litre front luggage compartment under the bonnet. ¹⁴

Twin 12.3-inch screens serve as the instrument cluster and multimedia display with satellite navigation, running Hyundai's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit architecture. Bluelink connected services are included free for five years, supporting remote climate control, vehicle status, send-to-car navigation, live traffic information and diagnostics, and over-the-air software updates are supported. Chassis changes include rack-mounted electric power steering, strut-mounted dynamic dampers and sound-absorbing tyres to reduce noise. ¹

Safety equipment spans seven airbags and Hyundai's SmartSense suite, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, rear Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist 2, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, front and rear parking sensors and tyre-pressure monitoring. 7NEWS notes the Staria Load's five-star ANCAP rating, based on 2021 testing, currently applies only to diesel and hybrid variants, with the Electric unrated so far. ¹⁴

History, servicing and ownership context

The new variant caps a staged roll-out of the MY27 Staria Load range announced in April 2026, when CarExpert reported diesel versions due that month, hybrids from June 2026 and an electric Staria Load targeted by the end of the year, alongside revised front-end styling, the loss of the crew van and the addition of the hybrid. The Electric becomes the third powertrain choice in Hyundai's local van line-up. ³¹

Servicing intervals for the Electric are listed at 30,000km, with Hyundai quoting $645 at 24 months/30,000km and $667 at 48 months/60,000km, figures also reported by CarSauce. The high-voltage battery is covered by an eight-year/160,000km warranty, while GoAuto notes Hyundai's broader vehicle warranty conditions vary by application, with commercial-use exclusions applying to its extended seven-year warranty program; 7NEWS describes the vehicle warranty as five years/160,000km. ¹²⁴

GoAuto frames the launch as part of a broader push toward electrification among van makers serving urban delivery fleets, with the combination of 450km range, a tonne-plus payload and 350kW charging potentially addressing compromises that have limited earlier electric vans. The Ground News aggregation of the launch records coverage across seven outlets including drive.com.au, which reported drive-away pricing starting at about $75,000 — a location-dependent figure distinct from the $70,990 manufacturer list price excluding on-road costs. ¹⁵
