Avatr 07L leads Australian launch

Changan Group is bringing its premium Avatr brand to Australia, with the five-seat 07L electric SUV to be its first model here. CarSauce reports that the Australian right-hand-drive vehicle will be revealed ahead of pre-orders, scheduled to open before the end of 2026. First customer deliveries are targeted for the first half of 2027; neither milestone means the SUV is available to buy or take delivery of now. ¹²

Australian pricing and the final powertrain, battery, charging, range and performance figures have not been released. CarSauce says local equipment and vehicle functions will be finalised subject to Australian specification, certification and regulatory requirements. Figures for 07Ls sold in China therefore describe that market’s vehicle, not a settled Australian line-up. ²³

Size and Chinese-market powertrains

CarExpert describes the 07L as a longer-wheelbase version of the 07, revealed earlier in 2026. It measures 4910mm long, 1980mm wide and 1650mm tall, with a 2990mm wheelbase. AutoTrader New Zealand reports luggage capacity of 735 litres, expanding to 1645 litres with the rear seats folded, plus 100 litres of storage under the bonnet. Those capacity figures are reported for the Chinese-market car. ¹³

In China, both versions use an 89.33kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery, according to CarExpert and AutoTrader New Zealand. The rear-wheel-drive model has one 305kW, 435Nm motor and a claimed 0–100km/h time of 5.9 seconds. The all-wheel-drive version has one front motor and two rear motors, with total outputs of 712kW and 996Nm and a claimed 3.7-second 0–100km/h time. Australian motor choices and outputs remain unannounced. ¹³

The Chinese-market range claims are 725km for rear-wheel drive and 650km for all-wheel drive, both measured on China’s CLTC cycle. They are not Australian range ratings. AutoTrader New Zealand also reports that the Chinese car’s battery is rated for 5C charging and that, on the 800-volt system with a sufficiently fast charger, a 30–80 per cent charge takes less than 10 minutes. Changan has not announced an Australian charging figure. ¹³

Equipment and local specification

CarExpert reports that the Chinese-market 07L has double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, standard continuously controlled damping and optional air suspension. It lists 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels, a 35.4-inch digital display stretching across the dashboard and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. Reported equipment includes a panoramic glass roof and heated, ventilated and massaging power-adjustable front seats; availability in Australia has yet to be specified. ¹

Audio is one identified local change: CarExpert reports that Australian 07Ls will use Meridian systems instead of the Huawei systems fitted to Chinese-market cars. CarSauce also names Meridian audio among the 07L’s announced features. The SUV will use Avatr OS, which the brand says will be tailored to Australian customers, digital services and market requirements. Detailed local equipment grades have not been published. ¹²

CarExpert says Chinese-market cars use a LiDAR unit alongside radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors for driver assistance. AutoTrader New Zealand reports that Australian driver-assistance functions will depend on local certification. The Chinese vehicle’s sensor and assistance equipment should not, therefore, be read as a final Australian specification. ¹³

Orders, dealers and price

The pre-order timetable is more specific than the delivery target, but a price has not been announced. CarSauce says further Australian details are due before the local reveal and pre-order opening. Separately, Changan Group Australia head of brand and marketing Andrew Haurissa told AutoTrader New Zealand that Australian dealers would be appointed before the end of 2026 and would be existing multi-franchise operators rather than standalone Avatr sites. ²³

Where Avatr fits

Avatr was established in 2018 and began producing vehicles in 2022, according to CarExpert. Changan is already represented in Australia through Deepal; AutoTrader New Zealand reports that Avatr will operate separately from that brand. CarExpert places the proposed arrival after the Australian launches of fellow Chinese premium brands Zeekr in 2024 and Denza in 2025. ¹³

Changan holds a 40.99 per cent stake in Avatr and battery supplier CATL holds 14.1 per cent, CarExpert reports. Huawei is a strategic technology partner, supplying in-car and driver-assistance technology. Those relationships help explain the Chinese-market vehicle’s hardware, while the announced Meridian audio change illustrates why its equipment list cannot simply be carried over to Australia. ¹
