Audi RS 5 launches in Australia as 2026 production sells out on unprecedented demand

Overseas launch confirmed amid record demand

Audi has launched the new RS 5 in markets outside Europe, with Australia and New Zealand leading the expansion. In its media release issued for the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Audi said sales begin in the two southern hemisphere markets, which it described as traditionally enthusiastic about Audi Sport, simultaneously with Japan, followed by Korea, Taiwan and other overseas markets. The announcement came as the German marque confirmed that the entire 2026 annual production run of the RS 5 is already sold out and that European orders are nearly twice as high as originally expected. ²¹

The RS 5, which is built at Audi's Neckarsulm plant, is Audi Sport's first high-performance plug-in hybrid, and the company has used its inaugural Formula 1 season as a showcase for the model. The car is being displayed at the Singapore Grand Prix in a special shade derived from the brand's Titanium Silver Gray, inspired by the city at night; Audi confirmed this colour was developed specifically for the Singapore race and is not available to order on production cars. ²¹

Ownership support includes a five-year warranty, a 12-year warranty against corrosion perforation for bodywork, five-year service plans, and the Audi Advantage program, which according to Audi Australia lets owners purchase two-year extensions to servicing, warranty and roadside assistance back-to-back for up to nine years of full factory warranty coverage, transferable to subsequent owners. ³

Hybrid drivetrain and performance claims

Per Audi Australia, the RS 5 combines a twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor contributing 130kW and 460Nm, for a combined system output of 470kW and 825Nm, and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.6 seconds. The company says this represents 139kW and 225Nm more than the previous model, and quotes WLTP electric-only driving ranges of up to 78km for the Sedan and 76km for the Avant. ³

A discrepancy exists between sources on engine displacement and battery capacity. Audi Australia's release describes a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 and a newly developed 25.9kWh battery, while Carscoops and Klix.ba report a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with the same 25.9kWh battery, and South Africa's CARmag states a 22kWh battery pack. The core outputs of 470kW, 825Nm and the 3.6-second sprint are consistent across all of these reports. ³⁶⁸⁷

Equipment reported by Audi Australia includes an 11kW onboard AC charger allowing a full charge in around two and a half hours, with a Type 2 cable, 240-volt domestic plug, 32-amp industrial connector and wall bracket supplied; forged 21-inch RS alloy wheels wider at the rear; a steering-wheel-mounted boost function providing up to 10 seconds of maximum system output; and a rear transaxle with electromechanical torque vectoring driven by an 8kW, 40Nm electric actuator. Cabin kit includes the MMI panoramic display, an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit, a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, a front passenger display, head-up display and a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System. ³

Demand context and international pricing

The overseas rollout follows a European launch that has clearly outperformed Audi's expectations. According to Audi's own release, the RS 5 was unveiled in February 2026, went on sale in Germany in the first quarter of 2026, began deliveries there in June 2026, and rolled out to other European countries gradually before the first markets outside Europe were added. The company states that no previous RS model has had such a successful market launch. ²¹

For pricing context, Carscoops reports that in the RS 5's home market of Germany the Sedan starts at €106,200 and the Avant at €107,850, making it the most expensive member of the A5 family. Index.hr, reporting for the Croatian market, quotes higher local figures of €116,116 for the Sedan and €118,452 for the Avant. Audi used the Singapore Grand Prix, held from October 9-11, as the stage for the model's launch in overseas markets.
