Geely Emgrand L EM-i sedan due in Australia in first half of 2027

Australian arrival and wider rollout

Geely Auto Australia has opened pre-orders for the Emgrand L EM-i plug-in hybrid sedan and scheduled its local arrival for the first half of 2027, according to CarExpert and GoAuto. The Monjaro EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV is also due in the first half, while the Battleship 700 off-road SUV is planned for the second half. The Emgrand will be Geely’s first sedan since it returned to Australia as a factory-backed operation in 2025. ²⁵

GoAuto reports that these are three of six Geely models planned for Australian launch in 2027, with the other three yet to be detailed. All three named vehicles were displayed at Sydney’s Everything Electric Show in September, CarSauce reports. Exact Australian launch dates have not been announced. ⁵³

The announced schedule differs from an earlier Cars24 report that placed all three incoming models in the first half of 2027, before the SUVs were named. CarSauce and GoAuto subsequently reported the Battleship 700 for the second half of the year. The Emgrand’s first-half timing is consistent in both the earlier and later reporting. ⁶³⁵

Preliminary powertrain and range

The five-seat Emgrand L EM-i uses a plug-in hybrid system related to the Starray EM-i SUV already sold in Australia. AutoTalk describes the sedan’s figures as preliminary: an 18.4kWh battery, more than 80km of electric driving range and more than 1000km of combined petrol-electric range. CarSauce identifies the combined figure as a WLTP claim, while GoAuto identifies the electric-range figure as WLTP. Geely says system output will exceed 180kW and 250Nm. The range and output figures are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results. ⁴⁵³

Paultan identifies the Australian-bound sedan with China’s Galaxy Starshine 6, which it describes as based on the fifth-generation Emgrand. Cars24 lists 8.5kWh and 17kWh batteries for the Chinese-market Starshine 6; neither is the 18.4kWh figure GoAuto reports for the Australian Emgrand L EM-i. Paultan’s suggestion about the motor and transmission Australia might receive is an inference, not a final local specification. ¹⁶⁵

Dimensions and equipment

GoAuto reports dimensions of approximately 4806mm long, 1886mm wide and 1490mm high, on a 2756mm wheelbase. It says overseas specifications quote a 609-litre boot, which should not be treated as a final Australian figure. Having driven an overseas-market Emgrand, GoAuto reported a comfortable ride, generous rear-seat accommodation and a relatively plush interior; those findings concern that vehicle rather than a locally specified car. ⁵

Geely has named five exterior colours for Australia: Alpine White, Cloudveil Silver, Polar Black, Volcanic Grey and Glacier Blue. CarExpert reports two interior choices, including a black-and-brown option, while CarSauce says the upholstery choices apply to upper trims. Australian variants and their detailed equipment have yet to be announced. ²³

Paultan lists equipment available on the model, including a 10.2-inch instrument display, 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless phone charger and ventilated, power-adjustable front seats. It does not establish which of those features will be fitted to Australian variants. ¹

Pre-order conditions and price

CarExpert and CarSauce report that customers who place a $200 pre-order deposit on an Emgrand L EM-i by 30 September 2026 are eligible for a complimentary home charger and a premium paint upgrade valued at $600. Terms and conditions apply. The $200 is a deposit, not the vehicle’s announced price. ²³

Australian pricing and final variants remain unannounced. GoAuto previously suggested the sedan could be priced around $35,000 if Geely follows its existing local pricing approach. That is GoAuto’s conditional estimate, not a manufacturer list price or a drive-away quote. ⁵²

Geely’s sedan history in Australia

The Emgrand L EM-i would join an Australian Geely range comprising the EX2 electric hatch, EX5 electric SUV and Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV. It would not be the first Geely-badged sedan sold here: GoAuto and Cars24 recount that the MK sedan was imported into Western Australia in the early 2010s. ⁵⁶

CarExpert identifies the Toyota Camry and BYD Seal 6 as likely sedan competitors. Within Geely’s range, GoAuto quotes 193kW of combined output and 83–136km of WLTP electric range for current Australian Starray EM-i variants, depending on battery capacity. Those are Starray specifications, not figures for the incoming sedan. ²⁵
