An entry hybrid that earns its place
The 2026 Honda CR-V e:HEV X is the cheapest way into a hybrid CR-V, but the most recent evidence suggests it is far more than a de-contented rung on the ladder. GoAuto's long-term update, published on 5 October 2026 and written by Matt Brogan, concludes that the CR-V succeeds through maturity and ease of use rather than headline features, describing a spacious cabin, intuitive controls, polished ride and a hybrid system that operates almost seamlessly. Over several weeks of everyday use, the publication found the absence of gimmickry increasingly felt like an attribute rather than an omission. 1
CarExpert's separate review, published in August 2026, reached a compatible verdict from its own week with the car, calling it a high-quality, well-rounded package and noting that nobody has ever complained about a smoother powertrain with a bit more low-end punch. The two outlets' findings are independent of each other and reinforce the same picture: the e:HEV X retains the core CR-V experience without the equipment of higher grades. 3
Specifications and dimensions
The CR-V e:HEV X pairs a 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors, sending a combined 135kW and 335Nm to the front wheels through an electronic continuously variable transmission. According to CarExpert's specification listing, the car weighs 1741kg, uses a 57-litre tank of 91-octane fuel, returns a claimed 5.5L/100km (125g/km CO2 under Euro 6b) and is rated to tow just 750kg braked. CarExpert recorded 5.2L/100km in its own week of highway and suburban driving, bettering the official figure. 3
GoAuto's long-term test describes the same powertrain figures and adds practical context: fuel use in its car hovered in the high five-litre to low six-litre range, allowing up to around 880km or more from the 57-litre tank on standard 91 RON unleaded. Its front-wheel-drive test car rides on 18-inch wheels with 235/60-profile tyres, a combination GoAuto suggests may be the best-suited wheel and tyre package in the CR-V range. 2
