Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric: what the Australian drives show

Separate Australian drives praise the electric Cayenne flagship’s pace and composure, while its optioned suspension, cabin controls and towing claims call for a closer reading.

A rapid SUV with more than straight-line pace

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric’s strongest review signal is its combination of extraordinary acceleration and convincing large-SUV manners. On South Australian roads, Chasing Cars found its performance matched by a settled ride, quiet cabin and assured handling. Boss Hunting, on a separate drive near Port Lincoln, also praised its comfort and composure, and reported towing a trailer carrying a 911 Turbo S. These are substantial findings for a five-seat electric SUV, though the accounts do not establish its range while towing. 12

Chasing Cars reports that the all-wheel-drive Turbo’s two motors deliver up to 850kW and 1500Nm with Launch Control, and gives a 0–100km/h time of 2.5 seconds. The peak output is not its continuous everyday output: Carscoops reported 630kW without Launch Control in its US-market drive. Carscoops measured 0–60mph in 2.5 seconds on an ordinary road shortly after driving on gravel. That independent result uses a different speed target and test condition, so it should not be presented as an Australian verification of the quoted 0–100km/h time. 14

How it behaved on road and beyond

Chasing Cars drove Turbo examples fitted with optional Porsche Active Ride. On Adelaide Hills roads at legal speeds, it found notably flat cornering, good steering feel and strong brakes, but considered Sport Plus throttle response excessive for everyday driving. Boss Hunting similarly credited Active Ride with balancing compliance and responsiveness near Port Lincoln. Because Chasing Cars says all its test Turbos carried the option, those impressions do not establish how a standard-suspension Turbo controls body movement. 12

Boss Hunting reported that the Turbo negotiated rocky ground on 22-inch wheels during its Australian off-road drive. One car became stuck in fine sand and was recovered with a shovel and another Cayenne. Its trailer drive suggested stable, effortless pulling at highway speeds, but Boss Hunting did not give the trailer’s loaded weight; it was not a demonstrated test at the quoted 3500kg towing limit. Separately, Carscoops found its optioned US test car composed on Colorado mountain roads and gravel, and reported a smooth transition between regenerative and friction braking. Carscoops said it did not conduct a full off-road test. 24

Car and Driver provides an instrumented overseas reference rather than an Australian result. Its specifications identify the tested US-market Turbo as a 2026 vehicle; it recorded 0–60mph in 2.1 seconds and 300 miles in a 75mph highway range test. Neither result should be substituted for an Australian acceleration or range figure. The outlet’s page carries a 2027 headline, while its test data has its own vehicle label; those labels do not confirm an Australian model year. 5

Range, charging and cabin practicality

Chasing Cars lists a 108kWh usable battery and a 537km range for the Australian Turbo. It reports 390kW DC charging capability and a promised 10–80 per cent charge in 16 minutes, dependent on a suitable charger and conditions. Its observed energy use was 21.6kWh per 100km on a drive that included rapid launches. That drive result is useful context, not a controlled range test or an indication of consumption with a trailer. 1

For daily use, Chasing Cars found good rear headroom, including in the Coupe, and adequate legroom, although the rear bench does not slide. It lists 747 litres of luggage space for the SUV and 500 litres for the Coupe, plus a 90-litre front boot in either, and notes the absence of a spare wheel. It praised the cabin’s finish, screen hand rest and physical temperature controls. Boss Hunting was less convinced by the interface: it found the low-mounted climate controls distracting and disliked having to adjust airflow direction through the screen. Those differing impressions leave cabin usability less clear-cut than the praise for its materials. 12

Australian cost, equipment and arrival

Chasing Cars lists the Australian Turbo Electric SUV from $259,900 before on-road costs, compared with $193,100 for the Cayenne S Electric and $167,800 for the entry Cayenne Electric on the same basis. Boss Hunting also reports the $259,900 Turbo starting price and notes the choice of conventional SUV and Coupe bodies. These are starting prices, not drive-away quotes or prices for the optioned review cars. 12

Chasing Cars says adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management is standard on the Turbo, while the Active Ride fitted to its test cars adds $17,480. It lists rear-axle steering at $3570 and ceramic brakes at $21,240. The outlet’s favourable handling assessment therefore needs to be read alongside the substantial cost of the suspension option on those cars. 1

CarExpert reported in September 2026 that the electric Cayenne range, including the Turbo, was beginning to arrive at Australian dealers. It says the new E4-generation electric model will be sold alongside the existing E3 combustion and plug-in hybrid range beyond 2030. Chasing Cars calls its review car a ‘2027’ model in its headline; that is the outlet’s label, not manufacturer confirmation of an Australian model year. For now, the local drives support a strong assessment of the optioned Turbo’s pace and breadth of ability, with its price, cabin controls and the unmeasured effects of towing remaining important qualifications. 31
