Zeekr outlines Australian rollout for 7GT, 8X and 9X

Zeekr’s next Australian models

Zeekr plans to expand its Australian range from three models to six with the 7GT electric wagon and the 8X and 9X plug-in hybrid SUVs. The models are confirmed for Australia, but their rollout is not a simultaneous launch: CarExpert reports that the 7GT will launch in the fourth quarter of 2026, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, while both SUVs are due on sale in 2027. ³⁵

The additions would sit alongside the electric X small SUV, 7X medium SUV and 009 people mover. The 7GT is the lower-riding wagon relative of the 7X; the 8X and larger 9X would be Zeekr’s first plug-in hybrids offered in Australia. That makes the forthcoming SUVs a change in powertrain choice for the local range, not electric-only versions of the two models. ³⁴

Launch order and delivery timing

The SUV schedule has shifted in published accounts. In June, Zecar reported Zeekr Australia managing director Frank Li expected the 9X before the end of 2026, while Zeekr International chief executive Mars Chen said the company had not decided whether the 8X or 9X would launch first. NRMA’s August account said the 9X was expected ahead of the 8X. CarExpert’s September report instead places both SUVs on sale in 2027, without specifying their order or customer-delivery dates. Those earlier expectations should not be treated as settled launch dates. ³⁴⁵

The distinction between a launch and a handover is clearest for the 7GT: CarExpert gives it a planned October-to-December 2026 launch window, but puts the start of customer deliveries in January-to-March 2027. Neither window establishes when an individual order would be fulfilled. ⁵

What is known about the vehicles

NRMA says Chinese-market 7GT versions use 75kWh or 100kWh batteries, with outputs of 310kW in rear-wheel-drive form and 475kW in all-wheel-drive form. It also describes equipment offered overseas, including air suspension and power-opening doors. Those figures and features describe overseas vehicles; they do not establish which batteries, drivetrains or equipment Australian 7GTs will receive. ⁴

Both SUVs pair a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with electric motors and use a 900-volt electrical architecture, according to NRMA. At a New Zealand preview, Zeekr quoted 660kW for a dual-motor 8X, along with 257km of electric driving and 1152km of combined WLTP range. NRMA says the tri-motor 9X previewed there was quoted at 1030kW with a 70kWh battery; its electric-only range was described as approaching 300km, depending on variant and test cycle. These preview figures are not final Australian specifications. ⁴

NRMA’s inspection of the overseas SUVs found different cabin layouts: the 8X had separate driver instruments and a wide centre-and-passenger display, with physical switches below the vents and on the console. The Chinese-market 9X it previewed had six seats in a 2+2+2 arrangement, including two individual second-row chairs. Australian seating configurations and equipment remain to be confirmed. ⁴

Prices remain open

Zeekr has not announced Australian prices or final variants for the 7GT, 8X or 9X. Zecar’s proposed price ranges and overseas specification tables are estimates, not local offers. For context only, NRMA listed the existing 7X at $57,900 for the RWD, $63,900 for the Long Range RWD and $72,900 for the Performance AWD, each before on-road costs. Those are prices for a different model, not guides to confirmed 7GT pricing. ³⁴

Existing demand and waiting times

Zeekr’s experience with the 7X explains why delivery timing warrants separate attention from launch timing, without establishing a waitlist for the incoming models. In May, CarExpert reported accounts of waits of up to six months for some 7X orders and said Zeekr vice president Mars Chen hoped to reduce the wait to one or two months by around June. CarSauce also reported the six-month accounts and Zeekr’s expectation of increased supply, but said the company had not detailed how much additional Australian stock would be allocated. ²⁶

The 7X subsequently recorded 1892 Australian sales in July, according to NRMA. A September account published by The Sydney Morning Herald said waits for most 7X variants were down to three months, rather than the one-to-two-month goal described in May. It reported 9172 sales of the 7X to the end of August, out of 10,070 Zeekr sales for the year; CarExpert separately reported the same brand total. Those are results for the existing SUV, not orders or delivery estimates for the 7GT, 8X or 9X. ¹⁴⁵
