2026 Suzuki Vitara Turbo Hybrid launched in Australia from $39,990 drive-away

What has changed

The updated 2026 Suzuki Vitara has swapped its turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine for a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, and the revised line-up is now available to order in Australia. CarExpert reports the range is priced from $38,990 before on-road costs, or $39,990 drive-away, with Suzuki marketing the electrified model as a 'Hybrid' in the same vein as its smaller mild-hybrid Swift hatch and Fronx light SUV. ¹

Suzuki Australia describes the Vitara Turbo Hybrid as a "natural evolution" of the compact SUV range, promising enhanced fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and refined on-road performance, according to GoAuto. The system uses a single 48-volt electric motor and a lithium-ion battery to assist acceleration and recover energy under braking, with no external charging required. ⁴

RACQ reports that Australians bought a record 199,133 hybrid vehicles in 2025, up 15.3 per cent on the prior year, and that Suzuki's rollout of mild-hybrid technology began with the Swift hatch in 2024 and the Fronx in 2025 before arriving on the Vitara. The motoring body also notes the Federal Government's New Vehicle Efficiency Standard is adding pressure on car makers to cut emissions. ⁵

Price and positioning

There are two grades: the Vitara Turbo Hybrid at $38,990 plus on-road costs ($39,990 drive-away) and the all-wheel drive Turbo Hybrid Allgrip at $45,990 drive-away, as listed by CarExpert. GoAuto confirms the same drive-away figures and notes the mild-hybrid variants join the existing petrol-powered Vitara range, which still starts at $29,990 plus on-road costs. ¹⁴

RACQ highlights that the former entry-level 1.6-litre non-turbo petrol Vitara, previously available from $29,490 drive-away, is absent from the new line-up, meaning entry to the Vitara range is now $10,500 higher. The hybrid variants themselves cost several thousand dollars more than their petrol equivalents, with claimed fuel savings of 0.1L/100km (front-wheel drive) and 0.3L/100km (Allgrip) over the non-hybrid versions, according to NRMA's Open Road. ⁵³

It has been a long wait for an electrified Vitara locally: CarExpert notes Suzuki Australia had been talking about bringing an electrified version here since 2024. The current-generation Vitara entered production in 2015, making it the oldest member of Suzuki's local line-up and, following the Mitsubishi ASX's replacement, the oldest model in the small SUV segment. ¹

Regional availability is split: CarExpert reports the Vitara Hybrid will not be offered in Queensland or the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, where distributor Suzuki Auto Co has opted not to import the model, leaving that market with just the Swift, Fronx and Jimny. ¹

Powertrain and specifications

Both grades use the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder with a 48V mild-hybrid system and a six-speed automatic, driving the front or all four wheels. CarExpert lists power at 81kW with peak torque up from 220Nm to 235Nm, while GoAuto quotes a total system output of 80kW/235Nm — a small discrepancy between the outlets' figures. Claimed fuel consumption is 5.8L/100km in front-wheel drive and 5.9L/100km with all-wheel drive, versus 5.9L/100km and 6.2L/100km for the outgoing turbo petrol versions, with CO2 emissions of 129–130g/km (FWD) and 137–139g/km (AWD). ¹⁴

Braked towing capacity is 1200kg, the fuel tank is 47 litres requiring minimum 95 RON premium unleaded, and kerb weight ranges from 1245kg (FWD) to 1275kg (AWD), per CarExpert. GoAuto adds payload figures of 435–475kg depending on variant. Dimensions remain 4175mm long, 1775mm wide and 1600mm tall on a 2500mm wheelbase, with cargo capacity of 362 litres (642L seats folded). ¹⁴

NRMA's Open Road explains that the electric motor adds a 15Nm torque boost over the regular petrol Vitara for combined outputs of 81kW and 235Nm, and that the mild-hybrid system cannot drive the car on electricity alone. ³

Equipment in the base Turbo Hybrid includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights with automatic high-beam, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fabric upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a space-saver spare. The Allgrip adds a panoramic sunroof, a 9.0-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, six-speaker audio, power-folding mirrors, rear privacy glass, leatherette upholstery, selectable drive modes and front and rear parking sensors, per CarExpert's specification listing. ¹

Paint options cost extra: white is standard, with Titan Dark Grey Pearl Metallic and Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic at $745, and two-tone finishes (Savanna Ivory or Ice Greyish Blue over Cosmic Black) available on the Allgrip for $1345, according to CarExpert. ¹

Exterior changes are otherwise limited to a new front bumper, redesigned grille, gloss black highlights and a redesigned lighting signature, RACQ reports. ⁵

Safety, warranty and servicing

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a reversing camera, traffic sign recognition and six airbags, as listed by CarExpert. GoAuto's equipment summary broadly matches, though it includes front and rear acoustic parking sensors across both grades where CarExpert lists parking sensors as an Allgrip addition. ¹⁴

The Vitara no longer carries an independent safety rating: CarExpert reports the previous five-star ANCAP result, dating from 2015, has now expired. RACQ likewise notes the updated model does not have an ANCAP rating. This follows GoAuto's January 2026 report that the related Suzuki Fronx scored just one star in ANCAP testing. ¹⁵⁴

Ownership terms follow the rest of Suzuki's local range: a five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty with five years of capped-price servicing at 12-month or 10,000km intervals, priced from $329 to $539 per visit depending on service extent, per CarExpert. The electric eVitara and Suzuki's electrified path

The hybrid is the first step of a broader Vitara refresh. NRMA's Open Road reports that Suzuki Australia announced an electric eVitara, a hybridised Vitara and an updated Jimny at a recent brand event, and that the eVitara — Suzuki's first battery-electric vehicle for Australia — is expected on sale in June or July 2026. Both CarExpert and GoAuto independently reference the electric Vitara's planned arrival around mid-2026, with GoAuto citing June 2026. ³²⁴

NRMA details two eVitara specifications: the Motion with a 49kWh battery and a single front motor producing 106kW and 193Nm, and the dual-motor Ultra with a 61kWh battery and 135kW/307Nm. WLTP range is listed at 344–395km depending on specification, DC fast-charging from 10 to 80 per cent is claimed at 45 minutes, and pricing has yet to be announced. ³

Suzuki's broader local electrified push remains modest-hybrid in character. CarExpert's 2026 Swift review notes the fourth-generation Swift became a hybrid-only model with a 12V mild-hybrid system in 2024, followed by the Fronx in 2025, with the e-Vitara and hybrid Vitara due locally by mid-2026. In CarExpert's testing of the Swift Hybrid GLX, observed fuel economy of 4.2L/100km closely matched Suzuki's 4.0L/100km claim, though the reviewer noted the mild-hybrid system cannot propel the car on electric power alone. ²
