Denza Z9 GT Australian launch pushed to first half of 2027

Launch slipped past its original window

The Denza Z9 GT electric shooting brake will no longer reach Australia this year, with the brand now targeting a first-half 2027 arrival. CarExpert reports that Denza had confirmed in April 2026 it would launch the Z9 GT in the third quarter of that year, a timetable that has since come and gone. A Denza Australia spokesperson told CarExpert there are "lots of moving pieces across the business" as both the BYD and Denza lineups continue to expand, adding: "We don't want to launch for the sake of meeting a date. It's an important brand builder this model and needs to be launched in an optimal environment." 1

The model and its Australian context

Denza, BYD's premium new-energy vehicle brand, lists the Z9 GT as a grand tourer within an Australian lineup that also includes the B5 and B8 Super Hybrid SUVs and the D9 luxury people mover, per CarExpert's Denza showroom. The brand only began customer deliveries of its first Australian models, the B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs, this year, followed by the lower-volume D9 electric people mover. The N9 full-size plug-in hybrid crossover SUV has received Australian Design Rule certification but has no announced launch timing, CarExpert reports. 12

Denza has not announced Australian pricing for the Z9 GT, and CarExpert's buy page states the model is not currently available with no pricing or availability information published. CarExpert notes the Z9 GT is likely to sell in lower volumes than the B5 and B8 given its electric wagon body style, and positions it against Porsche's Taycan within a clutch of Australia-bound electric sports wagons also taking in the Zeekr 7GT and Exlantix ES GT, both of which remain unpriced locally. 14

Certification details from the ADR documents

Cars24 reported in September 2026 that the Z9 GT had cleared Australian Design Rule approval the prior month, removing what it described as the major regulatory hurdle ahead of an Australian launch. Cars24 says the approval documents confirm the previously reported 850kW tri-motor output, along with dimensions of 5180mm length, 1990mm width, 1490mm height and a 3125mm wheelbase, with 125mm of ground clearance, a 2930kg tare mass and 3400kg gross mass. Braked towing is not rated in those documents, which Cars24 says do not reveal battery capacity or driving range. 3

Powertrain, battery and charging claims

CarExpert reports the Z9 GT features a tri-motor all-wheel drive electric powertrain with one 230kW motor at the front and two 310kW units at the rear for a total system output of 850kW, powered by a 122.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Claimed electric range is 1036km under the more generous CLTC cycle, and the claimed 0-100km/h time is 2.7 seconds. It will be the first electric vehicle in Australia with BYD's next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 technology, according to CarExpert. 13

The peak DC fast-charging capacity is 1500kW, CarExpert reports, making the Z9 GT compatible with BYD's new Flash ultra-fast chargers, which BYD plans to roll out to selected dealers. Cars24 says Denza claims the Flash system can charge the battery from 10 to 97 per cent in nine minutes, and that the first parts of the Australian Flash charging network are being installed at Denza dealerships in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Cars24 separately quotes BYD chief operating officer Mark Harland saying in May that Flash technology would eventually spread to other Denza models, "and further in the future, probably BYD". 13

Denza has not confirmed the 370kW single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain offered in China for Australia, CarExpert reports, though the brand has said it is open to bringing the plug-in hybrid version should there be customer demand. Cars24 reports Australia will initially receive only the pure electric powertrain, with the PHEV to be evaluated for a possible later release. Cars24 describes the PHEV, in its Chinese specification, as pairing three electric motors with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a 63.8kWh LFP battery for 400km of claimed CLTC range; CarExpert provides the same figures and cycle. 13

Equipment and overseas positioning

In the United Kingdom, where the Z9 GT is priced from £107,340 (about A$204,000) in electric guise according to CarExpert, it features air suspension, rear-wheel steering, a 17.3-inch touchscreen flanked by two 13.2-inch screens, a cooling and heating refrigerator, a 20-speaker 1150W Devialet sound system with Dolby Atmos, Nappa leather upholstery, and heated, ventilated and massaging front and outboard rear seats. Options there are limited to paint colours, larger 21-inch wheels in place of 20-inch alloys, and digital side mirrors. CarExpert cautions the UK price may not directly translate to Australia, but indicates where the wagon will sit within the local lineup. 1

Cars24 reports the Z9 GT will also introduce Denza's DiSus-A air suspension system to Australia, which the brand claims can manage a tyre blowout at highway speeds by lifting individual wheels independently, and can increase stiffness by up to 200 per cent in demanding situations such as high-speed cornering. Cars24 describes the cabin as spacious and high-quality, with large rear-seat space aided by the 3125mm wheelbase, and says Denza is pitching the car towards comfort, technology and refinement rather than purely performance, while aiming to undercut its European rivals on price. 3

Local pricing expectations and competition

Australian pricing has not been revealed, and Cars24 reports speculation putting the Z9 GT between $110,000 and $180,000 before on-road costs, which would potentially make it the most expensive Chinese-branded vehicle ever sold in Australia. For context, CarExpert lists the locally on-sale B5 at $77,185 before on-road costs and the D9 at $88,185 plus on-roads, while the UK-market B5 starts at £70,345 (about $133,900) and the D9 from £77,445 (about A$147,400). These figures are drawn from different markets and bases and should not be read as directly comparable. 13

CarExpert's quick-drive review of the Z9 GT, published ahead of the launch, praised the punchy powertrain, dramatic road presence and hyper-fast charging capability, but noted the car is heavy and feels it, and lacks poise and precision when pushed. Denza positions the Z9 GT against established performance cars such as the Porsche Taycan, BMW M5 Touring and Audi RS6 Avant, per Cars24. Zeekr and Exlantix have yet to reveal Australian pricing for their electric sports wagons, CarExpert reports. 153
