Renault Megane E-Tech facelift due in Australian showrooms in first half of 2027

Renault Australia has confirmed the updated Megane E-Tech will arrive locally in the first half of 2027, with a larger 67kWh LFP battery, up to 500km of claimed WLTP range, faster 165kW DC charging and refreshed styling. Local pricing and specifications are yet to be announced, with CarExpert and GoAuto reporting the details of the European reveal.

Australia timing confirmed, local details still open

A Renault Australia spokesperson told CarExpert: "The Renault Megane E-Tech facelift is due in Australian showrooms in the first half of 2027. Prices and specifications will be announced closer to showroom arrivals." GoAuto reported the same confirmation, with the updated model locked in for the local market next year and the 2027 SUV due in Australia during the first half of the year. 413

What has not been settled is the local order guide. CarExpert noted prices and specifications will be announced closer to showroom arrivals, and Cars24 reported that local pricing and specifications are yet to be announced, adding that a similar two-grade European lineup is expected locally though this has not been confirmed. Any European grade equipment, pricing or drive-away figures therefore cannot be treated as Australian offers. 42

Larger LFP battery and longer claimed range

The headline change is a new 67kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, up 7kWh on the previous unit, adopting a cell-to-pack design. CarExpert reported the claimed WLTP range rises to up to 500km, an improvement of 46km over the current car, while Cars24 and GoAuto quoted the same up-to-500km figure. To fit the larger pack, the Megane sits 20mm higher than before. 4213

Charging performance improves alongside the battery. Maximum DC fast-charging capability increases by 35kW to 165kW, up from 130kW, and both Cars24 and GoAuto reported a 15 to 80 per cent recharge in around 24 minutes under ideal conditions. The updated Megane also supports bidirectional charging: CarExpert reported bi-directional AC charging at up to 11kW as standard and up to 22kW optionally, with vehicle-to-load functionality able to power regular 220V appliances at up to 3.7kW and vehicle-to-grid capability allowing energy to be fed back into the network where supported. 4213

CarExpert reported a heat pump and battery pre-conditioning are now standard, with one-pedal driving added; GoAuto described the One Pedal function as allowing a complete stop on the accelerator alone, complemented by four levels of regenerative braking selected via steering-wheel paddles. These are reported update details for the facelift, not independently verified charging or range findings. 413

Motor unchanged, quoted sprint time slightly slower

CarExpert and Cars24 both reported the front-mounted electric motor is unchanged, continuing to produce 160kW and 300Nm. GoAuto, however, described the motor as a 164kW wound-rotor synchronous unit producing 300Nm paired with the new 67kWh LFP battery; the exact output figure is not reconciled across the reports. 4213

Renault quotes a slightly slower 0-100km/h time for the updated car of 7.6 seconds, compared with 7.4 seconds previously, a difference Cars24 put at 0.2 seconds. The longer sprint accompanies the larger battery and 20mm-higher ride height rather than any change to the motor itself. 42

Refreshed styling and upgraded cabin technology

The visual changes concentrate at the front. CarExpert reported a new sculpted bonnet, a deeper grille treatment between the headlights and a more aggressive front bumper with checkerboard LEDs at the corners, while GoAuto described a gloss-black grille, revised Renault badging and eight diamond-shaped daytime running lights integrated into the bumper. At the rear, the full-width light bar is retained but gains a new three-dimensional appearance, with a sportier diffuser element. 4132

Inside, all variants now carry a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, consigning the current car's 9.0-inch screen to history, CarExpert reported. The OpenR infotainment system is built on the Google Automotive operating system and includes Google Maps, the Gemini AI assistant and the Google Play app store. GoAuto reported Google Maps navigation with EV route planning and more than 100 downloadable applications. 4132

Further reported updates include an A-pillar camera for driver fatigue monitoring that can be set up to recognise individual drivers and automatically configure seats, media and infotainment settings, plus a wireless smartphone charger compatible with the faster Qi2 standard, which GoAuto noted also supports MagSafe. Cars24 reported the same driver-recognition camera and Qi2 charger. 4213

European grades and driver assistance updates

In Europe the range has been simplified to two trims, Techno and Esprit Alpine. CarExpert reported the Techno gains new-look 19-inch wheels and a higher-quality dashboard finish, with the Esprit Alpine adding redesigned 20-inch alloys, a sportier look, massaging seats, a Harman Kardon sound system and a full driver assistance suite. GoAuto positioned the Techno as the core model with the full OpenR twin-screen system, heat pump, battery pre-conditioning and 19-inch wheels standard. 4132

Some driver assistance systems have been upgraded. CarExpert reported adaptive cruise control can now detect vehicles to the left and right, an improved in-dash view of lane markings and surrounding vehicles, and the ability to bring the car to a safe stop if the driver is detected as inactive with hands off the wheel. GoAuto described more than 30 driver assistance systems, including emergency stop assist, predictive eco-driving advice and new Safety Coach and Safety Monitor functions. The facelift also introduces a Smart mode that automatically shifts between Eco, Comfort and Sport drivetrain settings depending on driver behaviour, CarExpert reported. 413

Context for the update

CarExpert noted the Megane E-Tech kicked off Renault's electric renaissance and is the first model in the brand's current electric range to be significantly updated. GoAuto reported the changes are aimed at reinforcing the EV's position in the competitive compact electric SUV segment, where Renault says it has attracted a younger customer base and a high proportion of first-time EV buyers, with more than two-thirds of customers new to EV ownership according to the brand. 413

GoAuto reported the updated Megane E-Tech is built at Renault's ElectriCity complex in Douai, France, and is expected to continue playing a key role in the company's electrification strategy. For Australian buyers, the practical effect is a local launch window in the first half of 2027 with claimed range, charging and equipment figures as reported above, but no confirmed Australian grades, pricing or on-sale specifications until Renault announces them closer to showroom arrivals. 134
