Japan-market update confirmed for 3 November

Toyota Motor Corporation's Lexus brand has announced a partial update to the LBX compact crossover for Japan, releasing it through Lexus stores nationwide from 3 November 2026. The announcement was made on 22 October, as reported by Japanese publications including motorcars.jp, MotorFan via Yahoo! News and Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun. The changes focus on ride quality and steering rather than powertrain or styling surgery, alongside added standard equipment and a new exterior colour. 1358

The LBX went on sale in Japan in December 2023, and Lexus states that more than 60 countries and regions have taken roughly 130,000 units in total as of the end of August 2026. That sales figure and the model's positioning as a compact, premium crossover underpin the manufacturer's framing of the update as a continuation of its 'Lexus Driving Signature' programme of ongoing base-performance refinement. 125

No Australian timing or specifications for this update appear in the announcement or the accompanying coverage. The details below apply to the Japanese domestic market; Australian availability and specifications would require separate confirmation from Lexus Australia. 12

Rigidity, damper and steering changes

The structural change centres on the centre crossmember, where Lexus has altered the sheet thickness to raise body rigidity. Japanese industry daily Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun reported the update on 23 October, citing the thickness change as a core part of the ride-quality work alongside the damper and steering revisions. 18

Lexus says the suspension work involved changing the shock absorber valve characteristics, which it claims delivers supple body control on rough roads, a greater sense of contact with the road for the driver and a flatter, more comfortable ride for occupants. These are manufacturer development claims; no independent test results accompany the announcement. 125

Electric power steering control has also been revised. Lexus says the aim is a more natural steering feel with light, linear feedback, balancing ease of use in car parks and city streets with stability on winding roads and highways. The company frames the outcome as a car the driver can 'converse with', language that reflects its development intent rather than a verified performance result. 134

Nürburgring development alongside Shimoyama

Lexus says the LBX had previously been developed at its Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama (TTC-S) facility in Japan, and that this update added extensive running and tuning at the Nürburgring in Germany, which it describes as the origin point of TTC-S and as having harsher road conditions. The manufacturer presented this combination of home-base development and Nürburgring iteration as the basis for the ride and steering changes. 1257

Taiwanese outlet Kingautos, covering the Japanese announcement on 23 October, similarly reported that the engineering team took the car to the Nürburgring Nordschleife for calibration of the suspension and steering in addition to ongoing work at Shimoyama. Neither outlet reports independent verification of the resulting ride character. 7

Standard equipment and new colour

On equipment, the update makes a colour head-up display with linked steering-wheel switches, plus a dashcam (drive recorder), standard on every grade. Lexus also cites broader colour availability: the new 'Sou' exterior colour is added across the range, with a blue effect appearing in highlighted areas; 'Relax' and 'Elegant' grades gain all monotone colours, while 'Cool' and 'Active' gain all two-tone colours and black mica. 1256

Response's matome summary characterises the equipment additions as improving everyday usability alongside the ride refinements. 6

Japanese pricing and range structure

All updated Japanese-market LBX grades retain the M15A-FXE 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine with an electric continuously variable transmission, in front-wheel drive or E-Four all-wheel drive. Japanese list prices (manufacturer's suggested retail, including 10 per cent consumption tax, excluding recycling fees) are: Elegant from 4,450,000 yen (FWD) or 4,710,000 yen (E-Four); Active 4,650,000/4,910,000 yen; Cool and Relax 4,820,000/5,080,000 yen each; and Bespoke Build 5,670,000/5,930,000 yen. MotorFan adds that the hybrid system pairs the 1.5-litre engine (91 PS/120 Nm) with one motor, or front and rear motors on E-Four versions. 145

These are Japanese domestic market prices and should not be compared directly with Australian pricing, which would reflect a different market, tax basis and specification. No information in the announcement or coverage indicates when or whether any of these changes reach markets outside Japan. 12
