Ford Australia has recalled 777 Transit Custom Double Cab in Van vehicles because a manufacturing defect could cause a fuel leak and, if an external ignition source is present, a fire. The Australian Government recall, numbered REC-006724 and carrying Ford campaign number 26S59, was originally published on 18 September 2026. It identifies certain vehicles from the 2024–2026 model years; that year range does not, by itself, identify every affected van. ²

CarExpert reports that the recall is limited to diesel-powered Double Cab in Van variants. The government notice describes the affected variant as “Double Cab in Van” and provides a vehicle identification number (VIN) list for identifying individual vehicles. ¹²

How the defect could cause a fire

According to the government notice, there may be insufficient clearance between a bulkhead mounting bolt and the fuel tank. The bolt could cause a fuel or fuel-vapour leak; a vehicle fire could result if an external ignition source is present. The notice warns that a fire could increase the risk of injury or death to occupants, other road users and bystanders. It describes a potential sequence of events, not a fire in every recalled vehicle. ²

In a statement to CarExpert, Ford said it had received no reports of related issues or incidents from customers in Australia and was conducting the recall as a preventative measure. That account is Ford’s statement about Australian customer reports, rather than a finding that every affected vehicle is free of the defect. ¹

Inspection and repair for owners

The recall notice says Ford will contact affected owners in writing and ask them to arrange an inspection and repair at an authorised Ford dealer, free of charge. It does not specify the repair procedure or how long a dealership visit will take. ²

Separate from a European fuel-leak recall

The Australian campaign should not be confused with a different Ford van recall reported by Germany’s ADAC in July 2026. ADAC identified that campaign as Ford code 26S31 and said it concerned possible cracks in a fuel supply line on certain Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom vehicles. Australia’s campaign is 26S59 and concerns clearance between a bulkhead mounting bolt and the fuel tank; the European vehicle figures and defect description do not describe the Australian recall. ²³
