The biography

Seton’s own team won the 1993 and 1997 championships. His career also shows why Bathurst results alone cannot define a touring-car great: the race never yielded an outright victory for him.

Backing his own team

Seton’s first championship came in 1993, as the category moved into its new V8 era. Four years later, his single-car Ford Credit operation delivered another title against much larger rivals.

The #30 Falcon EL is the defining image of that second crown. Built for Bathurst in 1996 as an EF, the chassis was updated for 1997 and became a championship winner. The car’s history connects the workshop’s preparation with the driver’s results.

The missing Bathurst win

In 1995, Seton came within nine laps of a Bathurst victory before an engine failure ended his challenge. The disappointment remains part of the story, but it should not obscure two championship-winning seasons.

For an owner-driver, winning the title also meant sustaining the operation around the car. Seton’s inclusion recognises that combination of driving and team-building, rather than treating a missing Bathurst trophy as the measure of an entire career.
