Pricing confirmed for the first electric C-Class

Mercedes-Benz Australia has revealed pricing for its introductory C-Class Electric variant, with the 360kW C400 4Matic sedan opening from $105,700 before on-road costs. As Chasing Cars reports, the new model went on sale in Australian dealerships on October 20, though customer deliveries are not due until early 2027, according to Torque Cafe. 13

Unlike the combustion-engined W206 C-Class, which remains on sale with multiple powertrains, the C-Class Electric is an entirely separate model underpinned by Mercedes-Benz's all-new EA-M platform. CarExpert notes it is being launched locally in a single variant, offered only as a four-door sedan. 14

Torque Cafe reports the new electric sedan is priced about $6000 more than the petrol C300, and positions it almost exactly halfway between the two launch variants of the rival BMW i3, which CarExpert lists at $96,900 and $112,900 plus on-roads for the i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive respectively. Those BMW figures are list prices before on-road costs, the same basis as the Mercedes number. 34

Powertrain, range and charging

The C400 4Matic uses a 94kWh (usable) nickel manganese cobalt battery and dual electric motors for total system outputs of 360kW and 800Nm. Mercedes-Benz claims 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds and a 210km/h top speed. CarExpert lists claimed energy consumption of 16.1kWh/100km and a claimed range of 753km on the WLTP cycle. 14

The EA-M platform's 800-volt architecture supports ultra-fast DC charging at up to 330kW, with a 10-80 per cent charge claimed to take 22 minutes, according to CarExpert. Torque Cafe reports that up to 325km of range can be added in 10 minutes, consistent with the international announcement from Mercedes-Benz, which stated the recharged range was determined under the ISO/SAE 12906 maximum DC charging conditions. An 11kW maximum AC charge rate is listed by CarExpert. 1234

The drivetrain includes a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, with second gear used at higher speeds to sustain power delivery and aid efficiency, according to CarExpert. 4

Design, dimensions and packaging

The electric C-Class is unrelated in styling to its petrol sibling, with a 'glass-look' illuminated grille featuring 1050 illuminated dots and three-pointed-star Digital Light headlamp beams, plus a Magic Sky Control panoramic glass roof with nine individually adjustable segments. At 4883mm long, 1892mm wide and 1503mm tall, Torque Cafe reports it is 128mm longer, 72mm wider and 53mm higher than the petrol C-Class sold in Australia, and rides on a 2962mm wheelbase that is 97mm longer. 13

The longer body brings packaging gains: Chasing Cars reports 12mm more front legroom, 22mm more front headroom and 11mm more rear headroom than the regular W206 sedan, while boot space grows to 470 litres from the petrol car's 455 litres, alongside a 101-litre front trunk. Mercedes-Benz's own international announcement also lists a 470-litre boot plus a 101-litre frunk and a towing capacity of up to 1.8 tonnes. 123

When fitted with the smallest 18-inch wheels offered in Europe, Mercedes-Benz claims a drag coefficient of 0.22, as reported by Chasing Cars. 1

Standard equipment and local options

Australian examples come standard with both the AMG Line and Night Packages - the latter removable at no cost - bringing more aggressive body styling, dark exterior accents, dark-chrome grille and front apron detailing, 20-inch AMG alloy wheels, metallic paint and dark window tinting, as reported by Chasing Cars. 1

Inside, Chasing Cars reports the C400 4Matic carries an MBUX Superscreen spanning the dashboard width, comprising a 10.25-inch driver display, 14.0-inch centre touchscreen and 14.0-inch passenger display, plus a Burmester 3D surround-sound system. CarExpert's equipment list adds a head-up display, MBUX Virtual Assistant with ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing integration, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Keyless Go, semi-autonomous parking assist, Artico leatherette trim and open-pore fineline birch wood trim. 14

Two option packages are available locally. CarExpert lists the $5200 Agility and Comfort Package, adding Airmatic adaptive air suspension and rear-axle steering, and the $8200 Luxury Package, which brings a 99.3cm MBUX Hyperscreen, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and an illuminated star pattern for the glass roof at night. 14

Warranty, safety and international context

CarExpert reports Mercedes-Benz backs the vehicle with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty, with the battery separately covered for eight years or 160,000km. Service pricing for the C-Class Electric is not yet available, and the model has yet to be assessed by ANCAP or Euro NCAP. Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot assist, lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera and front and rear parking sensors. 4

The model made its international debut earlier in the year: Mercedes-Benz announced in May that the all-new electric C-Class was available to order in Germany from 56,900 euros excluding VAT for business customers, with private-customer pricing starting from 67,711 euros including VAT, and leasing offers with monthly rates starting from 470 euros under the specified terms. The same announcement claimed WLTP range of up to 762km for the C 400 4MATIC, and stated that in real-world long-distance use the car can cover well over 1000km with a single brief charging stop. 2

Mercedes-Benz said in the same announcement that further models with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive as well as various battery variants will follow, including a rear-wheel-drive model with an expected range of approximately 800 kilometres - a provisional figure the company noted was based on digital simulations, with no officially confirmed values, EC type approval or certificate of conformity yet in place. That indicates the single-variant Australian launch will not be the end of the local range. 2

Mercedes-Benz Canada's market material for the 2027 electric C-Class sedan lists a 94kWh lithium-ion battery, up to 330kW DC fast charging and an available 4.5-degree rear-axle steering, though local specifications such as acceleration and range figures vary by market and testing basis and should be read against the Australian claims above. 5
