The biography
McLaughlin established himself with Garry Rogers Motorsport before his championship-winning DJR Team Penske years. His Supercars record includes three titles, 56 race victories and a 2019 Bathurst win.
Turning the breakthrough into a sequence
A first title is difficult enough; McLaughlin followed his with two more. The 2018 championship came in the final season of Ford’s Falcon. When the Mustang replaced it for 2019, the driver and DJR Team Penske combined for another title and 18 race wins.
Bathurst was part of that 2019 campaign, with Alexandre Prémat sharing the winning car. In 2020, McLaughlin added 13 victories and a third championship during a season disrupted by the pandemic. The sequence crossed both a model change and an extraordinary change in the way the championship operated.
A career that travelled
Before the Ford titles, McLaughlin’s years with Garry Rogers Motorsport helped establish his reputation as a major talent. His career connects the championship’s Holden and Volvo machinery with its later Falcon and Mustang contenders.
He left for IndyCar with three Supercars titles rather than staying to extend the run. That decision gives his Australian and New Zealand touring-car career a distinct shape: a rapid rise, a concentrated championship peak and then a different international challenge. For Legends, the important record is what he achieved here, without treating results in another series as additional Supercars wins.
