BYD launches $4,000 cashback across Australian plug-in hybrid range and Sealion 7

The offer and who qualifies

BYD Australia has launched a $4,000 cashback offer across most of its Australian plug-in hybrid range plus the electric Sealion 7, covering the Seal 6, Seal 6 Touring, Sealion 5, Sealion 6, Sealion 7, Sealion 8 and Shark 6. According to zecar.com, the campaign spans 16 eligible variants and is BYD's largest cashback of 2026 so far, up from $2,500 in July and $3,000 in the April to June period. The same offer is listed on BYD's national offers page and replicated on dealer sites including BYD Nowra. ¹²

Under BYD's terms and conditions, orders must be placed between 1 October and 21 December 2026 and vehicles delivered by 31 December 2026. The cashback amount is $4,000 including GST. Fleet customers, demonstrator and service loan vehicles, and transactions involving other promotional offers or discounts are excluded. Where an order placed in the campaign period cannot be delivered by 31 December, BYD Australia says it will review each case individually and may approve an extension to the delivery period. ¹²

zecar.com notes BYD's terms do not state when the cashback is paid, so buyers should confirm the payment timing and claim process with their dealer. The publication also points out that the ban on combining offers means the cashback cannot be stacked with BYD's other current promotions, such as its promotional finance. ¹

Eligible variants and post-cashback pricing

BYD lists 16 eligible variants, with all figures before on-road costs, which vary by state. On zecar.com's pricing table drawn from BYD's offers page, the Seal 6 Essential sedan is $34,990, dropping to $30,990 after the cashback, and the Seal 6 Touring Premium wagon is $39,990, falling to $35,990. The Sealion 5 Essential and Premium are $33,990 and $37,990, working back to $29,990 and $33,990. ¹

The Sealion 6 range is priced at $42,990 for the Essential, $46,990 for the Dynamic Extended and $52,990 for the Premium Extended before on-road costs, with the range starting at $38,990 after the cashback, according to zecar.com. The seven-seat Sealion 8 is $56,990 in Dynamic FWD, $63,990 in Dynamic AWD and $70,990 in Premium AWD, starting at $52,990 after the cashback. All Sealion 5, 6 and 8 plug-in hybrid variants are included across their full Australian line-ups. ¹

The Sealion 7 is the only fully electric model in the cashback offer. zecar.com lists the Premium rear-wheel drive at $54,990 and the Performance all-wheel drive at $63,990 before on-road costs, working out to $50,990 and $59,990 respectively after the $4,000 cashback. ¹

All three Shark 6 grades are included on BYD's launch pricing: the Dynamic Cab Chassis at $55,900, the Premium dual-cab at $57,900 and the 2.0-litre Performance at $62,900 before on-road costs. After the cashback, the Shark 6 Premium works out to $53,900 plus on-road costs. zecar.com observes that in August and September BYD offered the same model at $57,900 drive-away with on-road costs included, so depending on the buyer's state the saving under the new offer may be similar to last month's deal, as one OzBargain commenter pointed out. ¹

ANCAP qualification on the Sealion 5

Buyers considering the Sealion 5 variants covered by the cashback should note its safety result. On 29 September 2026, ANCAP gave the Sealion 5 a three-star rating, which applies to both the Essential and Premium variants, according to zecar.com. It is the first BYD model rated by ANCAP to miss out on five stars. ¹

ANCAP scored the Sealion 5 at 48% for Safe Driving, 51% for Crash Avoidance, 79% for Crash Protection and 74% for Post Crash. The consumer safety body noted the lane keeping system did not intervene in road-edge tests, and that child presence detection and eCall are not fitted. ¹

The 0.99% finance alternative

Instead of the cashback, buyers of most eligible models can take 0.99% p.a. comparison rate finance through BYD Financial Services, provided by Allied Retail Finance Pty Ltd (Australian Credit Licence 483211). BYD's terms describe a 36-month loan term with no minimum deposit and no balloon payment, applying to the Seal 6, Seal 6 Touring, Sealion 5, Sealion 6, Sealion 8 and Shark 6 variants in the cashback offer. The Sealion 7 is not included in the finance offer. ¹²

BYD's fine print states the comparison rate is based on a $30,000 secured consumer fixed rate loan over five years, excludes government charges and a dealer origination fee of up to $1,495 including GST, and excludes government, fleet and rental buyers. The settlement deadline is not stated consistently in BYD's published material: zecar.com reports finance must be approved and settled by 21 December 2026, while BYD's offer terms say applications must be approved by 21 December 2026 and settled by 31 December 2026. Buyers should confirm the applicable deadline with their dealer before ordering. ¹²

Sealion 7 novated lease option

Sealion 7 buyers who do not take the $4,000 cashback can instead access a 6% novated lease discount on the base vehicle list price, processed through an approved fleet management organisation. The discount excludes registration, CTP, stamp duty, dealer delivery and statutory charges. This offer has a longer delivery window, with orders by 21 December 2026 and delivery by 31 January 2027. Buyers cannot take both the cashback and the novated lease discount on the Sealion 7. ¹²

BYD's terms confirm the same 6% novated lease discount also applies to the Atto 1, Atto 2, Atto 3, Dolphin and Seal, available to eligible novated lease clients only, with fleet customers, demonstrators and service loan vehicles excluded. ¹²

How the offer compares with earlier BYD campaigns

BYD has run a series of cashback and driveaway offers through 2026, and the new $4,000 offer is larger and covers more variants than recent campaigns. zecar.com recounts that from August to September 2026 BYD offered free on-road costs on the Sealion 7 Premium, Sealion 8 Dynamic FWD and Shark 6 Premium, plus $2,000 cashback on the Sealion 8 AWD variants and a $3,000 Your Way credit on the Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis. July brought $2,500 cashback on the Sealion 5, Sealion 6, Sealion 8, Shark 6 and Sealion 7 Premium, while April to June carried $3,000 cashback on the Sealion 5, Sealion 6, Sealion 8 and Shark 6 Premium. ¹

This is not the first time BYD has used a $4,000 headline. CarExpert reported in December 2025 that BYD Australia offered $4,000 cashback on the Sealion 7 Premium, built as a $3,000 cashback plus a $1,000 Black Friday bonus, for orders between 1 and 14 December 2025 with delivery by 31 December. CarExpert noted the payment came after delivery and could not be applied as a purchase-price discount, exchanged for products or accessories, or saved for later. ⁴³

The Sealion 7's prominence in BYD's promotions reflects its sales standing. CarExpert reported in December 2025 that it was then Australia's second best-selling electric vehicle behind the Tesla Model Y, with 10,864 deliveries to the end of November against Tesla's 20,241 Model Ys. Separately from the current cashback, BYD also runs other retail offers into the year's end, including a $19,990 driveaway price on the Atto 1 Essential and $28,888 driveaway on the Dolphin Essential for orders until 15 December 2026, and a $25,990 launch offer on the new Atto 2 DM-i for orders until 24 December 2026. ⁴¹²
