First Australian showing confirmed

Lexus Australia has confirmed the LFA Concept will go on display at the Melbourne Cup Carnival, running from October 31 to November 7, marking the first opportunity for Australian audiences to see the pre-production electric supercar in the metal. Torque Cafe reports the car will be housed within the Landmark by Lexus pavilion at Flemington Racecourse throughout the eight-day carnival. 1

Lexus Australia chief executive Jack Hobbs said the display would carry forward the spirit of the original LFA. "The true significance of the original LFA was never measured by numbers alone. What made it so special was the lasting impression it left on everyone fortunate enough to experience it," Hobbs said, according to Torque Cafe. He added that the LFA Concept explores "how electrification can evoke the same sense of excitement, wonder and connection for a new era". 1

From world premiere to the Melbourne Cup lawn

The LFA Concept was world premiered by Lexus at Woven City in Japan on December 5, 2025, as a battery-electric sports car concept model, according to Lexus Canada's newsroom. Its exterior and interior had previously been revealed as the "Lexus Sport Concept" at Monterey Car Week 2025 and the Japan Mobility Show 2025, before being re-announced with partial specifications and a new name, per Lexus's own premiere release. 478

Since its debut, the concept has made one notable public dynamic appearance. Lexus announced in July 2026 that the LFA Concept made its world-first dynamic drives in a surprise at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, per the Lexus Canada newsroom. 5

Torque Cafe notes the concept was unveiled in December last year and frames the Flemington display as the concept's Australian debut, a detail consistent with Lexus Australia's own announcement of the showing. 1

What the LFA Concept is: an electric sports car on GR GT bones

Lexus's premiere release describes the LFA Concept as a next-generation BEV sports car concept developed in parallel with Toyota Gazoo Racing's GR GT and GR GT3, sharing their techniques and aspirations. It is centred on three key elements: a low centre of gravity, light weight with high rigidity, and the pursuit of aerodynamic performance. Torque Cafe likewise reports the concept is underpinned by the same chassis as the twin-turbo V8 Toyota GR GT, though the Lexus coupe is set to be an EV. 71

The concept uses a light, highly rigid full-aluminium body frame derived from the GR GT's structure, according to Lexus's premiere release, which adds that the LFA name is no longer tied to internal-combustion vehicles but symbolises a model embodying technologies engineers of each era should preserve and pass on to the next generation. 7

Partial specifications published in Lexus's premiere release put the LFA Concept at 4690mm long, 2040mm wide, 1196mm tall, with a 2725mm wheelbase and two seats. The interior is described as an immersive, driver-focused cockpit with the same ideal driving position as the GR GT and GR GT3, minimal controls arranged for blind operation, and a design philosophy Lexus calls "Discover Immersion". 7

Sound without an engine: Lexus engineers the EV driving feel

While no production decision has been announced, the LFA programme's general manager Yukihiro Yukita has told the UK's Autocar that the eventual LFA is expected to produce noise to keep the driver involved. Torque Cafe cites his comments: "What I get from the market is that a BEV is fake because we imitate the sound [of an internal combustion engine] - but that's not something we want to do". 1

Yukita told Autocar that Lexus wants its LFA drivers to "feel like they are driving with an engine", noting that EVs lose the sound and vibration that give "a big impact to the five senses of the driver". While acknowledging the popularity of synthesised engine noises in performance EVs from Hyundai and other brands, he said: "We're not just wanting to replicate the sound of the engine: we want to redesign the sound itself," as reported by Torque Cafe. 1

A rare nameplate in Australia

The original LFA, powered by a V10 engine, sold just nine examples in Australia, making it one of the brand's rarest models offered locally, Torque Cafe reports. The publication notes that rarity will soon be matched locally by the equally scarce RZ600e F Sport Performance. 1

The first-generation LFA's legacy remains a touchstone for the programme. Lexus's premiere release traces the new concept's lineage through the Toyota 2000GT and the original LFA, framing the project as an effort to preserve and evolve the craft of veteran automotive engineers for future generations. 7

Melbourne Cup Carnival context

The 2026 Melbourne Cup Carnival runs at Flemington Racecourse from October 31 to November 7, opening with Howden Victoria Derby Day on October 31 and culminating in TAB Champions Stakes Day on November 7, with the 163rd Lexus Melbourne Cup itself run on Tuesday, November 3 over 3200m, according to UK hospitality operator Racing Breaks. 6

Lexus's involvement with the carnival extends beyond the pavilion. The Victoria Racing Club has announced that Fashions on the Field returns this spring presented by Lexus, with a prize pool valued at more than $320,000, making it Australia's richest fashion competition. The VRC also runs the annual Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour, which takes the new 18-carat gold trophy to communities across Australia ahead of the first Tuesday in November. 23
