A commercial ecosystem, not just a ute and van seller

Ford Australia has formally launched Ford Pro, expanding its commercial vehicle business beyond selling utes and vans into an integrated package spanning vehicles, customisation, finance, servicing and connected software. GoAuto reports the launch was confirmed at the Ford Uncovered presentation in Melbourne, where Ford Pro Australia general manager Michael Elias described it as the next stage of the company's local commercial vehicle strategy. Ford, according to the report, says Australia is at the beginning of a multi-year rollout rather than receiving a finished package copied from overseas. 5

"We are in the first year of a multi-year journey for Australia, and we will be spearheading Ford Pro's journey into the rest of the world," Elias said, as quoted by GoAuto. He said the local operation will draw on the business model established in North America and Western Europe, where Ford increasingly positions itself as a business productivity provider rather than simply a vehicle manufacturer. RACQ's coverage of the same Ford Uncovered event describes Ford Pro as an integrated ecosystem for commercial operators that is already established in Europe and North America, and an evolution of the traditional fleet model that has largely focused on selling and servicing commercial vehicles. 56

Ford Australia marketing director Ambrose Henderson told the event, according to GoAuto, that around half of all vehicles sold in Australia are transacted through an ABN, describing commercial operators as part of an "essential economy" of roughly 2.5 million small and medium businesses employing more than five million Australians. "If their vehicle isn't on the road, they're not earning," he said, framing uptime as the core of the Ford Pro pitch. 5

Converter program lays the groundwork

The first visible element of Ford Pro in Australia arrived in October last year with the Ford Pro Converter program, which connects customers through Ford dealers with certified specialists able to produce complex work-specific vehicle builds. GoAuto, which reported at the program's launch, says it targets customers in areas including utilities, construction, mining and emergency services, initially bringing companies such as Bull Motor Bodies, Duratray, Hidrive, Mits Alloy, Norweld and XL Service Bodies into the certified network. 5

Ford Pro Australia general manager Michael Elias confirmed to GoAuto that the network has grown to 18 Ford Pro Converters across 52 national locations, with almost 5000 conversions completed. Ford Finance can additionally incorporate conversion costs worth up to 50 per cent of the vehicle's value into financing, allowing customers to deal with one ecosystem rather than separate suppliers. Each converter is assessed for engineering capability and installation methods before joining the program. 5

The strategy aligns closely with the Australian-developed Ranger Super Duty, launched alongside the converter program. According to GoAuto, the vehicle emerged because many customers were heavily modifying conventional Rangers before putting them to work, leading Ford to engineer a factory vehicle with 4500kg GVM, 8000kg GCM, 4500kg braked towing capacity and payload approaching two tonnes in Single Cab form. At AFAC26 last month, Ford and Deakin University showed a Ranger Super Duty Fire Response Unit developed with XL Service Bodies, examining how a mobile light vehicle could carry firefighting, communications and first-aid equipment. 5

Mobile service and national servicing network

Service is a central pillar of the Australian program. Elias confirmed to GoAuto that Ford has already started a Mobile Service program locally and is examining opportunities to expand it, effectively bringing workshop support to commercial customers rather than requiring every vehicle to visit a dealership. Ford also has 220 service outlets across Australia and 55 in New Zealand, and says its commercial support includes express servicing, loan vehicles, prepaid service plans, roadside assistance and an expanding regional presence. RACQ likewise notes the 220-outlet network as a key strength built over Ford's 101-year presence in Australia. 56

Overseas operations show where the concept can go. GoAuto reports Ford Pro expanded its European mobile servicing fleet to about 500 vans across 13 markets during 2025, with Ford saying the vehicles can perform more than 70 per cent of servicing, maintenance and repair operations on-site. Ford has not said the Australian operation will replicate that model in its entirety, but the local expansion plans point in the same direction, according to the report. 5

Software and connected data

GoAuto reports the Australian Ford Pro platform will be open and multi-make, allowing fleet operators and third-party telematics providers to work with Ford vehicle data rather than requiring adoption of a proprietary fleet-management system. Elias identified Ford's Uptime Command Centre in Melbourne as the foundation for bringing connected vehicle insights and manufacturer support into the ownership experience. 5

Ford Pro Data Services is already available in Australia. According to GoAuto, every Ranger and Everest built since 2022 contains a factory modem capable of supplying approved telematics providers with data including oil life, tyre pressure, battery voltage, engine temperature, fuel level, odometer readings and GPS location, plus driving-behaviour information such as idling and harsh braking. Elsewhere, Ford says its European FORDLiive system delivered more than 994,000 additional days of vehicle availability during 2025 by using connected data to optimise maintenance and repair activity. 5

Ford Pro's software and physical services accounted for 19 per cent of the division's EBIT in 2025, GoAuto reports, with Ford setting a global target for software and services to eventually produce 25 per cent of Ford Pro earnings. In the first quarter of this year, paid software subscriptions increased 30 per cent year-on-year to 879,000, carrying gross margins above 50 per cent. Ford's own UK product pages illustrate the software stack's fleet orientation: the Ford Pro Telematics Drive app offers live fleet tracking, remote lock/unlock and climate control, inspection checklists and logbooks, and works with any vehicle with an embedded modem or approved plug-in device, though command-and-control features are limited to Ford vehicles. 58

In the United States, Ford this year introduced Ford Pro AI, an intelligent fleet assistant launched at Work Truck Week that turns vehicle and fleet data into actionable insights. Ford says it is available at no additional cost to Ford Pro Telematics subscribers in the US, where a company survey reported fleet managers spending more than 23 hours a week on routine tasks. Ford's telematics data also shows fleets using its In-Vehicle Coaching feature reduced idling by 52 per cent and speeding events by 25 per cent, based on data from June 2024 to February 2025. 12

Multi-energy portfolio and vehicle line-up

GoAuto reports the Australian strategy deliberately avoids tying Ford Pro exclusively to electrification. Ford's commercial portfolio spans diesel, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric powertrains, and the company promotes hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) renewable diesel as a lower-emissions option for fleets not ready to electrify. Elias said renewable diesel, launched earlier this year, is a great option for fleets not ready to go electric. Ford says Ranger and Everest from MY22, Euro 6.2 Transit and Transit Custom, and Ranger Super Duty are compatible with HVO without engine modifications. 5

The newly announced Transit City BEV will enter below Transit Custom from November, GoAuto reports, joining Transit Custom PHEV, E-Transit Custom, E-Transit and Ranger Hybrid as Ford builds out the vehicle component of the ecosystem. RACQ confirms the Transit City arrives in November 2026 at $50,000 (MRLP), with a 56kWh LFP battery, 110kW front-drive e-motor, up to 254km combined-cycle range and 1085kg payload, manufactured by Ford's Chinese joint-venture partner Jiangling Motors Corporation. 56

Global origins and program expansion

Ford Pro originated in 2021 as a separate global commercial distribution and services unit within Ford, announced under the Ford+ plan with Ted Cannis as its CEO. Ford's own announcement described it as a one-stop shop aiming to boost uptime, productivity and total cost of ownership, initially launching in North America and Europe with a revenue target of US$45 billion from new and related hardware and services by 2025. 3

The model has since expanded overseas. Automotive Fleet reports a Ford Pro Advantage certified pre-owned program for commercial trucks and vans covering Class 1-7 vehicles launched in the US on October 5, targeting high-demand commercial vehicles around two to three years old with 30,000 to 70,000 miles. Ford has also announced in Europe a partnership with ChargePoint to provide commercial EV charging solutions, starting in Germany and the UK. 74

Commercial stakes

RACQ's report frames the Ford Pro launch as part of Ford's response to rising competition from Chinese brands in the Australian market, and notes it is a direct challenge to commercial vehicle market leader Toyota. Ford is keen to point out, according to RACQ, that it has been Australia's number two commercial vehicle brand for 13 consecutive years and has closed a historical gap of circa 21,000 units to just 3400 units year-to-date. Elias told GoAuto the goal is to lower downtime, add convenience and reduce the total cost of ownership so businesses can thrive. 65
