Polestar 4 SUV launches in Europe with Australian pricing locked in from $73,900

Polestar has put its more practical, rear-windowed Polestar 4 SUV on sale, with first customer deliveries targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026 and Australian pricing already confirmed. GoAuto reports the new body style joins rather than replaces the 4 coupé.

European launch and a new body style

Polestar has presented the Polestar 4 SUV in Ronda, in Spain's Málaga province, positioning the new variant as a more practical and comfort-focused alternative to the existing Polestar 4 coupé that will sit alongside it in the range, Spanish outlet La Verdad reported from the event. 1

WardsAuto, drawing on Polestar's July 7 announcement, reported that sales of the new model would begin in Europe and Asia from September 2, with the all-wheel-drive version reaching European and Asian showrooms from the start of that month. The model was first confirmed on February 18, 2026. GoAuto, reporting from the UK reveal, said deliveries to customers were expected from the fourth quarter of 2026, with the SUV expanding Polestar's reach among family and fleet buyers. 43

Program manager Johanna Berg told GoAuto at the UK reveal that the Polestar 4 coupé remained the brand's main seller but that the SUV variant had the potential to deliver even larger volumes and was a very important car for positioning the company in the premium SUV segment. Head of product communications Graeme Lambert told the publication Polestar had deliberately led with the distinctive coupé when the 4 was revealed in 2023, ahead of the model's 2024 Australian launch, even though an upright wagon body style was already being considered internally. 3

What changes versus the coupé

GoAuto's report describes an SUV with estate-like proportions: the new body style keeps the coupé's 4840mm length and 2139mm width, with overall height rising 22mm to 1556mm solely because of newly added roof rails. An extended roofline, upright power tailgate and removal of the coupé's rear-seat divider have lifted boot volume from 500 to 530 litres below the parcel shelf, while cargo capacity measured to the roof rises 24 per cent and the 1665-litre folded-seats figure is about 8 per cent better than the coupé. A 15-litre frunk adds charge-cable storage. 3

The defining change is at the back: the SUV gains a conventional rear window, allowing a standard conventional rear-view mirror where coupé drivers rely solely on an HD camera-based digital mirror, CarExpert reported. GoAuto adds that rear headroom rises by 25mm thanks to the shallower roofline, with the digital mirror retained as a $1000 option. Preliminary kerb weights were given as 2265kg (Rear motor) and 2375kg (Dual motor), roughly 35kg more than the coupé, with gross vehicle mass of 2740kg/2850kg, a 475kg payload, 100kg dynamic roof limit and 2000kg braked towing capacity. 23

Powertrain, range and the 400-volt decision

Both Polestar 4 body styles share the Geely Holding Group's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA1) dedicated EV platform developed by sister company Zeekr, CarExpert reports, noting the coupé's underpinnings also underpin the Zeekr 001, 009 and Volvo EM90 sold overseas. The SUV carries over the coupé's recalibrated MY27 chassis, including new spring rates, high-capacity dampers and revised anti-roll bar settings plus a new steering tune, which Polestar said in a statement were intended to bring a more controlled ride and improve comfort and agility. 2

Polestar claims the Rear motor SUV produces 200kW/343Nm with a 7.3-second 0-100km/h time and up to 630km of WLTP range at 14.9kWh/100km consumption, while the Dual motor version doubles outputs to 400kW and returns 600km WLTP thanks to an axle disconnect system, at 15.6kWh/100km, GoAuto reports. Both use a 94kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery. These are manufacturer claims rather than independently verified figures; WardsAuto reported the equivalent up-to-391 miles WLTP and 544hp dual-motor figures from the company's July release. 324

The SUV keeps the 4's 400-volt electrical architecture rather than adopting the higher-voltage system of the distantly related Zeekr 7GT wagon, limiting DC charging to 200kW, with a 10-80 per cent session adding about 400km of range in 30 minutes, GoAuto reports. Berg told the publication the decision reflected time to market and the state of charging infrastructure. CarExpert separately notes the Dual motor version matches the coupé's 400kW output and that the 630km range claim applies to Rear motor guise. 32

Australian pricing, grades and equipment

The Polestar 4 SUV is confirmed for Australia, priced from $73,900 plus on-road costs in 200kW/343Nm Rear motor format and $81,750 plus ORCs as a 400kW/686Nm Dual motor, GoAuto reports from the UK reveal; a Dual motor with Plus and Performance packs tops the range at $95,450 plus ORCs. These are list prices excluding on-road costs, not drive-away figures. All figures below are Australian-market specifications from GoAuto's report. 3

Standard equipment includes a glass roof, heat pump, surround-view camera, a 15.4-inch touchscreen running Android Automotive OS with Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker stereo and adaptive cruise control. A $6500 Plus pack adds harman/kardon audio, head-up display, Pixel LED headlights, heated and power-reclining rear seats, a rear control screen and tri-zone climate control; the $7200 Performance pack for Dual motor Plus cars adds active ZF dampers, larger Brembo brakes and 22-inch wheels. Other options listed by GoAuto include a $1200 Comfort pack, $1400 Tailored Knit upholstery, $2200 electrochromic roof, $700 privacy glass, a $4070 electrically retractable towbar and Bridge of Weir Nappa leather at $5700-$6100 requiring the Plus pack. 3

Full Australian pricing and specifications had not been announced when CarExpert reported in July that global sales would commence on September 2, 2026, with deliveries expected before the end of the year and a lineup expected to mirror the existing Rear motor and Dual motor coupé grades. GoAuto's September report has since supplied the confirmed prices above. 23

Production sourcing and the broader context

The Polestar 4 SUV is manufactured at the company's Busan factory in South Korea, where production began in the second quarter of 2026, GoAuto reports, and it will be available to order in a majority of Polestar markets, WardsAuto reports. For Australia, CarExpert notes this marks the first time Polestar's local division will take vehicles from outside China: the coupé is sourced from the Ningbo factory, even though the larger Polestar 3 is built in South Carolina, USA for select markets. 342

WardsAuto also reported context on the United States: the US Department of Commerce imposed a sales ban on Polestar vehicles in June 2026 because of connected-vehicle technology linked to China, while sibling Geely-owned brand Volvo Cars was granted permission to continue US sales in May. Polestar identifies the Audi Q6 E-Tron, Volvo EX60, BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric as the SUV's primary competitors, GoAuto reports, with Berg telling the publication Polestar was working hard to separate the Polestar and Zeekr brands. How the SUV will be sold or priced in the US under the ban is not addressed in the available reporting. 43
