Repco backs front-engined twin-turbo Porsche 996 stunt build debuting at Bathurst 1000

Repco has partnered with stunt driver Gary Reid and ShowTime on a heavily modified Porsche 996 project set to debut at the Repco Bathurst 1000, AutoTalk Australia reports. Named the ShowTime Repco-Mod 933, the car will feature a front-mounted twin-turbo LS V8, relocating the engine from the rear position traditionally used by Porsche. ¹

The build will also include a handmade aerodynamic body kit, onboard racing jacks and extensive custom fabrication, AutoTalk Australia reports. Reid framed the project as a series of firsts for the model. "Every car fan knows the 996 introduced water-cooling to the world's most recognised sports car," Reid told AutoTalk Australia. "Well, I'm adding a few firsts myself. How about a twin-turbo LS V8 in the front – not the back – with a handmade aero kit, onboard racing jacks and more fabrication than a sci-fi movie?" ¹

Who is behind the build

Reid is a live stunt specialist whose ShowTime fleet performs drifting and stunt-driving displays at events across Australia, including rounds of the Repco Supercars Championship, AutoTalk Australia reports. "If you're anything like me and love big horsepower in fast cars then this is going to be a memorable ride. Stay tuned," Reid says. ¹

Repco head of marketing Mitchell Wiley told AutoTalk Australia the partnership reflects the automotive retailer's connection with Australia's custom-car community. "We are car people," Wiley says. "Repco's stores are staffed with car people, many who have their own project cars, so it's only natural we would support Gary Reid and his latest ShowTime build." He adds that many car builders shop at Repco, making the project a way to show support for the custom car community. ¹

Debut plans and what comes next

The completed Repco-Mod 933 is scheduled to be unveiled at this year's Repco Bathurst 1000 before joining the ShowTime stunt fleet, according to AutoTalk Australia. Reid has pitched the finished car ambitiously, saying it is not a resto and "will be unlike anything you've seen". Updates on the build will be published through a dedicated listing on the Carsales website. Details such as power output, completion timing beyond the Bathurst unveiling and the donor car's history have not been announced. ¹
