Range Rover Sport Electric opens for Australian orders from $226,518 with first deliveries due March

Order books for the first fully electric Range Rover Sport are now open in Australia, with Man of Many reporting prices from $226,518 before on-road costs for the entry Dynamic HSE grade, rising to $249,518 for the range-topping Autobiography. Both figures are manufacturer list prices excluding on-road costs. The same outlet reports first local customer deliveries are expected to commence in March. ¹

The pricing ends months of uncertainty. When the Sport Electric appeared in prototype form at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Chasing Cars reported that Australian pricing was yet to be confirmed and that the model had not been officially locked in for local sale, though it appeared likely. ²

The confirmation follows an earlier commitment from JLR Australia, which told CarExpert in July that both the Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric would arrive locally during the first half of 2027, with full lineup, pricing and specification details to be confirmed later in the year. ³

The new EV commands a substantial premium within the Sport family. Man of Many notes the wider Range Rover Sport range starts from $146,799 before on-road costs, while Chasing Cars pegs the Sport P460e plug-in hybrid at $166,089 before on-roads. ¹²

Dual-motor powertrain and 800-volt charging

Underneath the MLA-Flex platform sits a 118.5 kWh usable lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt battery running an 800-volt architecture, feeding dual permanent-magnet motors with 404 kW (550 PS) and 850 Nm, delivered through a single-speed transmission to permanent all-wheel drive. That is the mechanical layout described by Man of Many from the international launch programme. ¹

Under test conditions the battery yields an official NEDC combined range of 600 km, with a manufacturer-quoted real-world estimate of 535 km, according to Man of Many. This differs from CarExpert's earlier account, which relayed UK reports projecting around 600 km on the WLTP cycle — so the cycle basis for the 600 km figure should be read as per the latest launch reporting rather than the earlier projection. ¹³

Charging figures from Man of Many include up to 220 km of range added in ten minutes at a 350 kW peak on 800-volt DC, a 10-to-80 per cent charge in 22 minutes, and 96 km added per hour on three-phase AC via the 22 kW onboard charger. Because the pack is integrated into the floor structure, Range Rover says torsional rigidity rises 61 per cent and the centre of gravity drops 73 mm compared with the plug-in hybrid variants. ¹

Performance, size and off-road credentials

Man of Many recorded 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds in Dynamic Launch Mode at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, while noting the kerb weight of 2770 kg (unladen, EU measure) means acceleration is refined rather than searing. Braking comes via 380 mm front discs with four-piston calipers and 355 mm rear discs. ¹

The brand's traditional capability carries over: Man of Many highlights a 900 mm wading depth and serious all-terrain engineering, with four-wheel steering and a 48-volt active roll control system demonstrated on track, gravel and an off-road course including the stepped 'Dragon Steps' incline and a run through the fuselage of a parked aircraft. ¹

Dimensionally the EV is effectively identical to the combustion Sport, measuring 4946 mm long, 2047 mm wide (mirrors folded) and 1820 mm tall on a 2997 mm wheelbase, with aerodynamic measures — a flush front grille, active cooling ducts, flush handles and bespoke 21- or 22-inch wheels — yielding a drag coefficient of 0.29. Chasing Cars had earlier observed the undisguised prototype shared the existing Sport's platform and design, and Man of Many's comparison table sets the EV against the BMW iX5 60 xDrive (4994 mm, 0.28 Cd), Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Tech and Cadillac VISTIQ. ¹²

Cabin and practicality

Inside, Man of Many describes a cabin that looks the same as the petrol and hybrid models, centred on a 13.1-inch curved glass touchscreen with a 13.7-inch digital driver display and wireless Apple CarPlay. The floor-mounted battery does not eat into practicality: the reviewer, at six feet tall, reports no trouble fitting front or rear. ¹

Cargo capacity is 789 litres with the second row in place, expanding to 1814 litres with the rear seats folded flat, with a loadspace aperture 793 mm high and up to 1121 mm wide. Man of Many also singles out acoustic isolation as a standout on gravel surfaces, with two regeneration settings including a well-calibrated standard single-pedal mode. ¹

Where it sits against the competition

Pricing positions the Sport Electric among the dearest luxury performance EVs. Man of Many places the entry Dynamic HSE above the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric's $187,600 starting price (before on-roads) and the BMW iX5 60 xDrive, which is yet to be priced locally despite claiming up to 845 km (WLTP) of range, while undercutting the Lotus Eletre R in top-tier trims. ¹

Chasing Cars, writing before the local announcement, cited the Porsche Cayenne Electric at $186,719 driveaway and the Mercedes-Benz G580 at $215,537 before on-road costs as closest rivals, and noted ominously for the segment that weak demand had already claimed the Audi Q8 e-tron, prompting Audi to discontinue it and close its Belgian factory. ²
